Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon Ep1 (Pre-air)

I dunno. This first episode is just so meta. Thanks to the ridiculous amount of characters everything in the show is a reference to something else. It's kind of hilarious because most it a bunch of other tropes and characters blended together. so really they're blending a blend with almost every fetish you could ask for.

Anyway though, I did like this episode. The episode was funny and entertaining. just nothing special.

Squid Girl Season 2 Ep1

I have to say it was a pretty good episode, like Working Season 2 it hit all the notes on why the first season was adored by may. If you like easy to follow comedy, you should pick up on this one.

Be like me and watch it twice (would've been 3 times if raw was only out and no subs).

Absolutely love this show and it started up where it left off. One of my all-time favorite comedies.

I'm a patient man. Though it is a wonder I lasted until all of the Madoka BDs were out to watch it.

FWIW, I watched CrazySquid, KindaHorrible, Horrible, and Underwater, and I think KindaHorrible was the best. Quality was pretty much the same in the last 3 but Underwater was 10-bit. Hated their font tho. All three seemed to have pretty much the same script which I didn't like (the script and that they all had the same one). Hoping FFFPeeps has a script where they don't have the de-gesos translated into squid puns in sentences.

Also, I'm a hypocrite because I think it's adorable when 'nyan' is made cat-like into catgirl speech. But whatever, watched a lot of Ika Musume today ._.

The bad squid puns were really annoying and were kind of distracting. I only watched KindaHorrible subs version but kind of depressing that all of them are cruncy rips or whatever. IkaMusume is still adorable as ever though and entertaining. Nothing else this season seems to be that interesting to me, we'll see how the first ep gauntlet goes.

Enjoyed the squid puns couldn't figure out who I watched season 1 subbed by so I'm just downloading HorribleSubs.

To be fair, Underwater had their sub out only 3 hours after HorribleSubs. Not a bad wait at all.

If it comes to a point where both subs are released when I look, I go for underwater every time, otherwise I just go for horriblesubs or something.

I tend to watch... the first thing I see, soon as its up (and so do alot others apparently at the speeds I download stuff)

I don't worry about subs too much since I understand a little bit of whats said anyway and as long as the episode doesn't look like 320x240 viv (gotta love that super old anime encoding codec!) format I'm fine with it.

I worry about subs because I understand a lot of what's being said, but not all of it. So I can tell when subs are worded horribly wrong or are just flat out wrong, and then I question the authenticity of the subbed lines for the Japanese I don't understand. Granted, it doesn't happen all the time, but it's very distracting when it does, even though it's really not a big deal 99% of the time. Thankfully, at least one of the 'good' sub groups ends up picking up all the shows I'm interested in every season, and I don't mind waiting because I got shit to do. So for those who are picky about subs reflecting what the characters are actually saying, there ARE groups out there who sub badly (can't think of any off the top of my head though, they tend to be little one-off groups).

Being able to follow portions of dialog, I find it makes poor subs even worse, and even distracting. I'll also admit I'm a format snob. HD everything (720p or 1080p depending if it's an upscale), MKV container, h.264 video, AAC or FLAC audio. All TV rips get replaced with BD rips as they're released.

Even worse are sub groups who go out of their way to troll by adding their own flavor text that has no basis in the original, usually unnecessary profanity or slang that is completely out of context. I don't count the squidisms in Ika Musume since those are essentially there in the Japanese dialog with all of the ~janaikas and ~degesos.

eh, not a big fan of that kind of localization attempt. While it's not Texas accent, it still irks me to see Ika musume talk squid pun and Hideyoshi speaks in Shakespearean English.

Let's just agree that plain English is the way to go.

And for plain English Ika Musume, try FFFPeeps. They're the ones I watched for the fist season and they have returned to do everything in readable, easy-to-understand English subs. And it's not the same ripped script that everyone else is using. Guess 5th time is the charm.

Also, nothing new till Friday, so that's kinda meh. Guess it makes sense since that's when the season is supposed to start.
