    Settlements take on various shapes and forms, and are intended to serve as landmarks and bases of operations for adventurers. Future patches will usher in more features to enhance their practicality, with each location set to become the backdrop for an assortment of new quests.

    Buscarron's Fold

    A solitary shack situated at a glade along the Lumberline and serving as a watch house, the care of which has been passed down through the Buscarron line for generations.     The Coffer & Coffin

    An inn frequented by trade caravans, its name derived from a folk song which tells of an optimistic man bound for Ul’dah. The traveler drags along a stout chest, which will become either a coffer to hold his winnings from the gambling dens, or a coffin to bear his own lifeless corpse home.

    In addition to the above, beast tribe settlements will also be implemented in patch 1.18. And by way of a sneak preview, imposing strongholds and larger settlements of the beastman persuasion are slated to appear in 1.19—a development that could only bode ill for the peace and prosperity of Eorzea.

    It's about time FFXIV starts catching up to the standard though. Now the question is: Will they fuck that up too? Let's hope not. As much as people bitch about MMOs all being the same, this would be a welcomed upgrade to FFXIV in the end.

    Casuals will bitch if there's no EXP rewards, Hardcores will bitch about EXP rewards.

    Kind of wish they gave more info on what ranks these will focus on, and the rewards if there's any.

    2 settlements per area, so I suspect one for mid-level ranges and one for upper level ranges. With these I forsee something like Behest to 25 > mid-level hamlets + dungeons to 35/40 > upper level hamlets + dungeons to 50. Probably stick a few leves or something like that in there somewhere to bridge gaps.

    Oh I wasn't even talking about the gameplay.

    In 1.18 we're literally only getting the structures. So there's nothing really to say about them other than whether they look pretty. I doubt the devs have the details about functionality ironed out at all

    Those are the hamlets that are going to eventually be the center of Besiege-esque "Hamlet Defense" events. Other than that, they are only currently involved in a handful of quests.

    Well they didn't specify if this patch will have some sort of basic feature for these settlements, they're simply saying that these will be expanded.
    I'm more interested in beast tribe settlements honestly.

    I thought we were getting some basic quests out of them, even in 1.18, with more to follow in the future, especially after beastman strongholds are implemented.
