In addition to the above, beast tribe settlements will also be implemented in patch 1.18. And by way of a sneak preview, imposing strongholds and larger settlements of the beastman persuasion are slated to appear in 1.19—a development that could only bode ill for the peace and prosperity of Eorzea.

Don't get me wrong this is a good thing to be added, but it seems very silly for some of this stuff to not have been implemented in a smaller update spaced over time, instead of giving this really large update. That goes for a lot of things in this update.

Maybe some of this stuff wasn't ready for the previous patches.

Makes it easier for them to do it all at once.

I don't mind it, whatever makes it most efficient for them really, but this is not what I was told would happen at the end of the year.

If 1.19 takes longer than 2 months Yoshida has failed. We didn't wait five months just to wait another three per patch. We waited to get the big patches out fast whenever they're done.

Then I look at it as don't spread your development team so thin across many projects. Taking on too many things at once, which leads to delays, isn't something terribly uncommon for SE. I don't want to see content that is a steaming pile of shit because of it being rushed, but keeping people waiting for updates isn't really healthy for the game at this point either.

I agree with the idea, but I'm willing to be lenient on the timetable until after 1.20. (I realize a sizable chuck of the gaming population probably isn't). It sounds like what's taking so long now is reworking so much from scratch so that things can be more modular and faster in the future. They've not made it a secret that the "overhaul" to the game would be across the next three patches, and I'm going to withhold further judgement until after 1.20.

Job system, server/engine overhauls and the area revamp isn't going to be in the upcoming three patches. This is going to take longer than just till 1.20 which is why they damn better speed up their schedule.

With this the first of the major patches rolling out my curiosity is slowly starting to pique about the game again. For the people on these boards that still log in, are their still people playing this game?

I haven't logged in since December is it bearable yet? If so are there actual people to talk to or quest with or is it a ghost town? They did away with being able to see how many people were online right about when I quit is this still the case?

Edit: WoW fanboys and haters have no need to respond to this question, looking for an honest perspective from someone that actually logs in regularly.

It's dead on Cornelia at the moment. About 2 months ago it was dead, then people started playing again last month (there was sometimes 20ppl online on my LS and that's a lot for us). I stopped playing for a month and when I got back on yesterday the only guy who kept playing in the LS told me it'd been dead since July started. I guess people don't see the point of playing right now when they know it'll be less painful in a couple days.

Figaro has quite a bit of activity. It's up and down generally but leve nights and weekends are still rocking and rolling. JPs are in high volume still too.

My only reasons for playing lately has been grinding away at the soon-to-be-extinct Grade-10 fishing waters, and half-assed-ly going after crafting training manuals. Playing melee/mage until the 22nd doesn't sound like a good use of time to me.

Since Yoshi said we're getting jobs post 1.20, them adding classes within next 3 months is highly unlikely. Was looking forward to those two jobs too...

With new classes so far away, it seems odd that they would be using Arcanists to go around preaching the end of the world (umbral era thing) at the camps.

Sucks about the classes to, since Musketeer/Acranist seem to have a few things in the data.

Besaid server isn't too bad actually, Ul'Dah is always pretty crowded nowadays (Gridania & LL not so much...), and I can always find a crowd around the camps for leve links/Behests. People are starting to become relatively more communicative as well *gasp*. Can't tell you the actual amount of people logged on though.
