I haven't seen anything posted here about this. Something is going on in the Black Shroud. A player found a tree emitting a red glowing cloud and he used his hatchet it on it and exploded green.

Weird that this is the first I have heard of that... I am constantly running around the black goddamn shroud and I haven't seen anything amiss.
It's the eastern-most clearing in the Treespeak area. I may have to go check it out when I'm done killing helpless little Sylphs... which, by the way, give way less base exp than Ixali of the same rank.
OK, I just found that tree. It was not out of the ordinary in any way... not even a gathering point... until I approached it and it burst with light like those screens. It was a big green pulse, with a slight yellow after-glow. No obvious effect at all. This is curious. I wonder if it's just a "hedge" tree since it's on the outer edges of the Black Shroud and if there's other similar ones that do the same thing as just an aesthetic. I've sure never seen it before. I'll see if I can get it to happen again.
It happens every time I bump into the tree. Nothing happens with the big stump or any of the other trees in the clearing.
Make like Axe Cop and chop its head off and see what happens.
It's been there for at least a few months. I remember running into it while camping Bloatbelly and trying to figure out what it was.
Well, either way, they sure screwed exploration now that all aggressive mobs immediately attack you. With any Quick effect, you used to be able to run right past most mobs without getting attacked since you would be out of range by that time. Not anymore.
Sounds like Light Shot was affected by more than just the standard recast timing issues.Current Known Issues (Jul. 25)
We have confirmed that the displayed recast time for the Archer ability "Light Shot" was not taking into account basic cooldown for bow attacks. This issue only affects the displayed recast time; the actual recast time for the ability is functioning normally.
The issue is currently being addressed. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Weird, I'm usually good about talking to NPCs and reading in general. I guess I missed that one.
Heh, that whole area named after that one tree way out in that dead-end corner that shines when you bump into it.
It's probably just speaking "hey fuck you watch where you're going."
Seems odd that they would bother with that little bit of lore, but not really have anything visible about the story of Bearded Rock and such.
I just noticed an NPC spawn in Ul'dah, Alfgar, just outside the adventurer's guild and he began to cry aloud out about the Garleans attacking and how we should all run away.
Talking to him gave three options:
How many: Small unit but they kept coming, larger force must be nearby.
How are they armed: Armed with the likes that he hadn't seen before, also accompanied by monsters.
Where are they: Fighting broke out just north of Camp Horizon.
I'm on my way there now.
Is this ye olde?
edit: I can't find shit. There's a few other people running around here too, so I guess I wasn't hallucinating.
edit: And I have now run around every damn bit of the zone that's north of the camp. Nothing. Unless it was referring to The Footfalls... but I believe that area is too dangerous to get to, even as 50 FSH.
edit: Herp, there's a ramp down there. Nothing down there either though.
Yes, olde. Some kind of continuation to the whole GM thing few months back.
Well shit...
Is it normal for it to have shown up in my character's Lodestone history? I just noticed this today.
Is it similar to have spoken to the creep that shows up at the camps to preach? The Empire Strikes First
Miya Kai (Palamecia) has spoken to someone who witnessed and imperial attack on Eorzean soil.
I think this patch really breathed some life back into the game. Overall I've gotten the feeling from those I speak to, and from reading the boards, that it's been well-received. I echo that feeling too for the most part, as there have been several snags along the way for me and my group (primarily connection issues; it's to the point where I tell people if you've been logged in longer than an hour restart client before entering dungeons).
I've enjoyed seeing the evolution of the game to this point and I think we have a much better idea of the direction of the game now with 1.18. It's a good foundation to build upon, and I speak for many when I say the rest of it has to come fast to keep us interested. The large spike in activity, at least on my server, has been great. The world feels alive and purposeful, but still there is something missing... I'm definitely hungry for more already but also feeling kinda jaded about how little there is almost a year later, or rather how quickly it's been put on "farm status". I dunno, hard to explain what I really feel. I think I'm losing interest maybe.
Sry to jump back onto this topic, but wasn't this tree a part of the Gridania rank quest? It was on fire and grew angry at the boy who did it. That leads me to believe it's just someone in the "instanced cut-scene" and the tree is linked outside the cut-scene. It's a possibility!
Aren't there actual Garlean attacks near Tranquil? Horizon is the counterpart to Tranquil, so I wouldn't doubt there would be attacks there as well. Same with Bloodshore. It was probably done by the time you got there, or it was just a way to tell you to be expecting them in that area.
I'd like the patch better if I could actually get the movement down. I still feel no contact to the ground; I feel like I'm playing Fallout 3 and I'm sliding across a graphical terrain. D:
Could you explain what you mean by that a bit more? Is it the animation while running that bothers you or is it something less obvious? I've never played Fallout 3.
Isn't the only "attack" near Tranquil just the Garleans setting up magitek devices inside The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak?
Also, I saw the NPC spawn and immediately /shout. I immediately talked to him and immediately ran straight out to Horizon. Me and maybe 4 others were roaming around the area, and ultimately waiting around for something to happen and nothing ever did. Either nothing actually happened at all or it was only a handful of mobs that some Rank-50's teleported out to and killed right away. However, I haven't heard anything of the latter.
