New monitor, HDMI sound?

So I just picked up this monitor: http://www.amazon.com/HP-2511x-25-In.../dp/B004G8QO8E

The picture is great, and I really like it already. However, for the life of me I can't figure out how to get sound to work on it. I updated the drivers and everything but nothing has worked. I use my laptop through HDMI to a TV and I've never had any problems getting the sound to work with that.

It actually shows that the sound is going through on the screen, but I don't hear anything. There's no volume control on the monitor, that's what I was looking for initially.

Anyone have any idea? The speakers on my laptop are okay so I won't be too disappointed if I can't figure out how to get it to work, it's kinda annoying though. On windows 7 btw.

On your task bar, right click the speaker icon and select playback devices. There may be multiple ones to choose from (my laptop shows 3). Try setting a different one as the default.

Actually, nevermind that. Just checked the specs on the monitor you listed, and there are no speakers.

Usually for monitors that accept HDMI signal, they'll have a means of tunneling the audio through them, usually via a shitty 3.3mm stereo plug in the rear.

I can cofirm this monitor DOES NOT have built-in speakers, and they are sold seperately from the monitor. I've been through this while monitoring shopping a couple years ago... gotta read the specs carefully

Space saver if you can deal with meh quality that has no real bass to it. Couldn't be any worse than the laptop speakers he's using right now.

Pretty much this. The speakers on my laptop are okay though so I'm not too disappointed, the monitor I had before didn't have speakers either, and this picture/resolution on this one is AMAZING for the price. I looked at http://www.squidoo.com/hp-2511x-review which made me think it had speakers lol. Thanks for the responses, good to know I wasn't just missing something!

Usually dollar-store earbuds sound better than built-in monitor speakers.
