FFT is okay, but it's like a SRPG for SRPG scrubs... of course I can see why so many people would like it given that.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game but it's just that it didn't challenge my brain at all which is what SRPGs are really supposed to be about. It did have the atmosphere and the music though so I can't hate.
Also, the job system was pretty good... that's still gold among SRPGs to this day.

But really, just a job system and atmosphere over other games in the genre... everything else is standard or below standard.
