IM3 would've been so good if they had just told the Extremis story as-is. I don't know why they shoe-horned the Mandarin in there and why they treated him in a way they had to know would piss off the comic fans. That being said, RDJ salvaged a lot of entertainment out of the movie through sheer force of charisma.

Echoing the hate for IM3. Even IM2 did Whiplash a little justice. IM3 just rubbed shit on the Mandarin as a villain. But yeah, RDJ did provide some entertainment during that train wreck. I'd say Thor's Loki has been the most entertaining villain thus far. Ultron in close second, and Winter Soldier for most savage.

Kinda sad how Marvel tried salvaging Mandarin thru that one-shot, but haven't revealed any plans for a follow-up, or even another IM flick. Not sure how many more movies RDJ has left after Infinity War.

With the way the last Avengers ended, I feel like they're going to give all the phase 1 actors a break for a bit because they're getting a little stale. Thor is just boring on his own imo, and Captain America's movies feel more like epilogues to Avenger flicks rather than movies that stand on their own. IM2/3 stand on their own, but the villains and plot were always just so...lame. Poor Hulk can't get his own movie even though the last one was pretty damn good.

Nah. Not over Justin Hammer in terms of funny or entertaining. IM2 was bad yes, but Ultron's humor is lost on the fact that he was excessively sarcastic. Loki on point though.

Sad because Marvel has a lot of complex villains. The rights for them all happen to belong to Fox and Sony though.

What is it specifically that people don't like about the solo Thor movies?

And no, "they're boring" is not an answer.

I'd say Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. Fucking zzzz. Darcy's assistant in the second movie was the equivalent to Leo from Transformers 2. Fucking pointless. Malekith was meh compared to Loki.

Other than that, Odin, Heimdall, Lady Sif, Loki, and Darcy are great. Thor himself is so-so. Looking forward to Ragnarok.

Personally I feel the casting was great all-around. They picked a great cast, but it seems like they had no idea what to do with them writing-wise.

The Thor films probably had the most "downtime" compared to other Marvel films. That is, time where the story isn't progressing, and where the scene could be completely cut and the movie would still make sense.

Not every scene needs to move the story or have action, because then you won't have any character development, but the supposed character development time in the Thors just didn't work out very well. Some were slightly amusing, but most weren't particularly witty or insightful.

For example, one of my favorite parts in Winter Soldier was the ride in the stolen truck where Rogers and BW talked about life as a spy and such. They could've have easily cut that entire scene, and just had them show up at the old facility, but they put it in there, and it worked. It was witty, and gave you good insights into the characters (e.g. "tough way to live" but "good way not to die").

Echo all of this. The first Thor especially. Over half the movie was him just walking around doing nothing. Not even trying to get the hammer back.

All of the scenes away from earth in the Thor movies were great imo. They had too much filler with stale humor otherwise. I still liked them both a lot, the second being the better one.
