Why wouldn't Odin ever say something to Thor about him not coming home?

Idk, if Loki is able to imprison Odin somewhere, why can't he just kill him? And even if he didn't, being able to lock up Odin is a big deal. Loki is a threat.

Because Odin could probably figure out pretty easily why Thor went back to earth (plus has crows to watch him)?

You're out of your mind if you think Loki just snuck on the throne while Odin was out of town lol. At least one person at some point would have noticed there were 2 Odins walking around. Odin would have at least talked to Thor about not coming home at some point. And I'm pretty sure the deleted Thor scenes that Wheedon talked about from Avengers2 pretty much confirmed that Loki was running shit back on Asgard.

So I decided to look into some major characters and was disappointed to find that Fox has rights to Kang, I guess as part of FF rights... le sigh.

Kang, Galactus, Silver Surfer, all the heralds of Galactus, Annihilus, etc. Between X-Men, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four that's such a massive pool of villains just wiped out completely. Can't even use the Beyonder or Molecule Man since they are tied to the Silver Surfer.

Not having access to the FF characters stings the most. The X-Men are generally somewhat separate from the rest of the Marvel Universe, but especially in the last decade characters like Mr. Fantastic and Dr. Doom have had a very large role in big events. There are characters that could also play roles in the GotG end of things (Super Skrull, Surfer, the Heralds), but they were somehow able to use Ronan so I'm not sure how all the rights play out there.

I think Marvel has the rights to the Kree but not the Skrulls? Or something like that.

Ronan was a character originally introduced in FF, so up until the casting of GotG was revealed most assumed it fell under Fox.

Of course, the Chitauri were technically the Skrulls up until the first Avengers movie, at which point they retconned everything to make them separate races.

The Beyonder has appeared in Spidey comics so don't rule that out.

It has more to do with where the character initially appeared. Kang is more traditionally an Avengers villain, but as he was originally introduced in FF he's considered part of Fox's deal. Or at least Fox owns the rights to the names Rama Tut/Nathaniel Richards, so if Marvel could somehow use Kang he'd have to be an entirely different character from what's known.

But again I've never fully understood how Marvel got to use Ronan since he was introduced in FF and has been fairly well involved in some of their stories over the years.

I hate to say it, but I'm glad they don't. Seeing Doom, Kang, or Galactus be treated as pitifully weak as Red Skull and Ultron were would be awful. They've already shown they can't make good villains, I'd rather the rights stay in limbo until they figure it out.

Cap v Red Skull/Winter Soldier (Both Super Soldiers--Or at least Bucky is psudo SS with enhancements he's received)
Ironman v Monger/Whiplash (Both Humans in Armor Suits)
Antman v Yellowjacket (Both Shrinking Suits)
Hulk v Abomination

The other movies I don't think fit this mold.

I'm sure if the new FF movie tanks Marvel will swoop in for the kill. But yeah the MCU villains are pretty dull aside from Loki. I have more faith in the Russo bros than Whedon tho for Thanos. I think he'll do fine.

Outside of what Marvel has already been doing with "tanking" the Fox owned properties in the comics, there's not really a damn thing Marvel can do about it. Fox will hold on to the property and spit out shit movies as required to hold onto FF just to spite Marvel. Exactly like they're doing right now.

It is an archaic concept, but it works well. Duality is a persistent part of human nature.
