FFX
FFVII
FFXII
Breath of Fire 3
Oblivion
Only finished FFXII this past weekend. Ending felt like a bit of a let down but rest of the game is awesome.
final fantasy 13 is the best rpg ever
FFVIII is underrated... I still need to finish a max-stat playthrough someday. it's probably the best game ever to do something like that with, given the level scaling and the ease of obtaining endgame items from the card game.
fuck, now I really want to do that. see what you've done?! lol
8's Omega Weapon is still the most frustrating boss of my childhood because I didn't wanna beat him using invincibility potions. I may have to replay this soon now too ><
Top 5 geez that's really tough. In no specific order:
Xenogears
FF7
FF10
Chrono Trigger
Star Ocean Second Story
Most of the FF games are absolutely awesome. The first really was blast despite it being imperfect at the time. I think with the newer iterations they really perfected that game. That's why I wouldn't mind seeing more remakes of a lot of classics.
Also another franchise game that got screwed by poor sales was Xenosaga. It was better than .dot hack which had 7 games from the same company but given Xenosaga unfamiliar subject material and huge emphasis on story it really got passed over.
I debated whether to even make a list because I've probably played about 5% of the RPGs most people on these boards have.. But w/e I'll do it anyways..
5. Dragon Warrior
4. Oblivion
3. KOTOR
2. Shining Force 2
1. Grandia
FFVIII
FFXIII
Pokemon GSC (not the remakes)
Persona 4
KH2
1. A Link to the Past
2. Chrono Trigger
3. FFT
4. ME 2
5. FF9
Holy crap I couldn't agree w/ you more. I used Lavitz because his polearm was actually slow enough for you to time everything but Albert was <Impossible to Gauge>!! Last time I played this on my PS3, the final fight was so laggy that I couldn't do any combos lol. Still a great game despite that though.
1. Final Fantasy 9 (First RPG, replayed it so many times)
2. KH 1
3. Legend of the Dragoon
4. Super Mario RPG!
5. Final Fantasy 13
1. Final Fantasy VI
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Grandia II
4. Final Fantasy Tactics
5. Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis
I honestly didn't play a lot of RPGs before this gen of consoles. The ones I do remember from back then are Mario RPG for N64 and Dark Cloud for ps2. If MMOs are counted I would have to say FFXI and even WoW(I played it too much).
The only current-gen RPGs I've played and would remember to mention are ME 1 and 2, ranked in reverse order. Keep in mind, the only JRPG I've tried since... Dragon Quest VIII(wich was good) is about 2 hrs of Folklore, so I can't list any of those goods ones.
So, with my limited playing:
1) FFXI
2) ME2
3) WoW
4) ME1
5) Tie due to fuzzy memory from so long ago: Dark Cloud, Mario RPG, Dragon Quest 8, Folklore and one other sequel for ps2 about a female demon(?) the sequel was a button masher and the first was traditional RPG.
So are we counting Zelda or not?
If not, I change that to ME:2
Damn this is a tough one, I've never really given it any thought.
Star Ocean 2
Shadow Hearts 2
Kingdom Hearts
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
