Is this game somewhat similar to Monster Hunter in any way? I only just saw a commercial for it on TV yesterday so I really don't know anything about it.

All I have to say is, fuck cloaked enemies.

Capcom holding a stream starting in 10 minutes. Showing how to get the Berserk Armor, Mystic Knight and the Ur-Dragon among other things. Will probably be a bit spoilerish.
gonna pick up ps3 version tomorrow or thursday, there are no differences as Dark Souls was right?
also psn: IceCreamCeviche hollatchaboi
I like the main menu music, but yeah it is pretty out of place, haha. When it started up with the piano I kinda jumped the gun was like "WTF is BGz talkin bouts, this is nice and rela--oh LOL".
In semi related news, for the first time ever I got a Gamefly game with Netflix speeds. Got the text/email that Ghost Recon Future Soldier shipped on Monday morning. Got the game in the mail today... I was shocked.
Made it to the part that I can bring in my Pawn and rent others. If anyone is looking for a tanking Fighter and eventually a tanking Warrior, search my Gamertag Graelinn for my pawn Honor Black. Haven't done much at all but loving it so far.
I'm assuming most people will make a tank warrior dude as main pawn, unless you choose warrior, then you pick mage!
I named my pawn Hodor lol. though I didn't bother to try and make him look like him.
I find it pretty awesome though, that if you take that rotten food and combine it with other ingredients you get Backfat Oil. Combine that with an empty flask and you get Flask of Oil for the Lantern (or for throwing at enemies to make them nice and flammable). It is little shit like that that I love in games. Now... my typical Tank pawn and I are off to kill seagulls.
Did anybody else pick up the escort quest from the board in the main city's inn? If I cancel it, can I pick it up later? The place he wants to go is almost literally on the other side of the world map -_-;
not sure, but I decided to do an escort quest that was pretty far away. I ended up failing about 5 quests total just trying to get the dude to his location since apparently running from certain fights will autofail you. Ran into 2 Chimera and had to flee and then I had to run past a Drake and that was a whole lot harder to do and that's when the guy died (on all three attempts), so I just gave up, let him stay dead and teleported back to Saron.
And I had brought your pawn along for the hellish ride, Viq. lol
also;
I found a Golden Egg from a seagull I killed, didn't know food rotted and was disappointed when I went to try and sell it. Only had a Rotten Egg in my inventory.
I would take back every horrible thought I have had about these insufferable babbling pawns... if just ONE of them would work "Master, you ought not forget to save your game!" in to its vocabulary...
Anyone know where you pick the Weapons Upgrade Pack? Was the Amazon preorder bonus.
Nevermind I found them.
I'm on the fence about picking this up. How close is this in regards to Monster Hunter in terms of gameplay?
Pretty damn close, with some Dark Souls mixed in.
It's not greatest game all time level but for a new series with some interesting and unique mechanics it's definitely worth the purchase.
So basically what you are saying is that if you like Monster Hunter then there is a pretty good chance you will like this game? At least as far as combat goes?
Is there a mandatory install for the ps3 version?
I would say so Mots, yes. It just isn't as simple as that though. I love Monster Hunter. I am loving Dogma. There are little things like the foraging and mining that remind me of MH. The upgrades are similar, though much less grindy (so far at least). The fighting is much more hectic than Monster Hunter. I like that. It feels solid, and oh so rewarding.
Nothing like coming around a corner on a high mountain path and seeing a Cyclops just sitting in a stream/river way down below you. You can even hear him mumbling Cyclops shit. Then you make your way down there and kill him and you almost feel bad for him, but you don't, because the fight was badass and you barely pulled it off.
I also find the way the game refuses to hold your hand to be very much MH. There are no lengthy tutorials, no dotted lines for you follow all the way to the end of the game. Opening cutscene happens, and you are just shoved out there and expected to stop being a a whiny bitch and get things done. Everything in this game just feels ... right. I have heard people say that they feel like it is WKC done right, or at least done how the original gameplay videos made it seem like it was going to be in the end. I agree.
It is the closest thing to a sandbox action game that I have every played. It is just what I had expected, and that pretty much means I couldn't be happier. Sure I see tearing, sure the population in the game is a bit on the thin side, but I am absolutely ok with that too. I don't miss the endless amounts of dialogue. It is refreshing to play a game that is just what it is. A fulfilling, action packed, epic moment fueled game. I am a bit tired of games only being deemed to have a good story if they actually squirrel away a cuople novels within them.
Tired of reading, just like you now are, I just want to fuck shit up.
