- Crysta sucks, the fact that it expires is what really sucks, because even buying 20$ worth, to cover your one account, which only costs 17 dollars, in 5 months, you would basically have earned a month, while not free, your "free" from the constraints of remembering to "login and load crysta" .... but it expires, so they get your money

It's mostly all over-reactions in this thread, I've used Click & Buy in the UK for around 6 years paying for online DVD rentals, and registered my SE account with them for 14, you don't get charged a fee for paying a subscription with a credit card, it's just if you want to 'load' money onto your account, which you don't... There is also no conversion fee unless your credit card company is from a different country to the one your paying to, so if you have a US CC and you have a US SE Account you just set up a C&B subscription and pay the same amount you've been paying POL all these years.

Yeah it's a ballache, and YES it's unfair that JP customers don't have to use a 3rd party to pay, but it's literally a set-up once and leave it to it type of affair. Only people who are really screwed are those who live outside of USA, Europe and Japan.

And no, I remember lots of people including myself with extra charges coming from C&B back during 14, and I see a lot of people now having the issues. Not to mention the fact numerous reports where US CC companies block C&B transactions because they are considered a red flagged company so many can't even use it (myself, again, included).


It's like people who claim Bank of America is straight up and up and not shady at all, when I worked for them and saw them giving people credit cards even when the people said no.

There are many widespread stereotypes (since we recently had this talk) about NA's being fat and lazy...so you go from a system of "give me your CC# and I'll just take your money" to a system of "you have to go out of your way to make sure we get our money"...maybe this would have worked 30 years ago, but not today. There will be enough fallout from this for SE to notice, but it will probably be too-little-too-late for 90% of NA and EU people who drop their subscription next month if SE eventually fixes it (which I wouldn't expect before November).

Ok, so since this isn't required till August 31st, I can just wait till a few days before and they'll charge my card the normal way for the month of August in a few days correct? Can use my non 3D Secure card through paypal just fine but will take a few days to verify it most likely, rather not get locked out due to random registration server maintenance.

I understand they've had a shit ton of billing problems in the games 7-9 year history? So they outsourced. Fuck everything get's outsourced... most of the god damn work that's being done in afghanistan and iraq is fucking outsourced. If you don't see the issues, you obviously haven't actually read any of the threads.

The main issue that people don't like, is that you have to manually tell it to buy enough crysta every month, instead of it being automatic. Yes, you can buy a bunch up front, and not have to do it every month, but that's unacceptable to people on a tight budget, and it leaves a lot of un-refundable crysta sitting in an account, in the event that you don't play for as long as you have crysta for.

Many people enjoy the convenience of just being able to provide a CC number and have their fees charged, without having to manually force money to go somewhere every month. Added rage over not being able to purchase crysta in the same denominations that you need to pay for your fees every month, combined with the apparent evidence that the JP players CAN do this (as well as just charge a card directly), and you start to get people pissed off enough to actually say "fuck it".

If I don't quit due to lack of motivation to deal with setting it all up and having to remember to pay every month, I'd probably go the route you did. PayPal the Crysta and deal with it. But I can totally understand why others are more than a little bent out of shape over this.

That's my plan. Do nothing until mid-august, and hope by then SE realizes how dumb they are, and adds some non-retarded options, like the ones the JPs seemingly have.

Sort of. There's two ways to keep playing, automatic credit/debit card charges monthly, and by buying Crysta.

If you intend to continue paying by credit/debit card monthly with automatic payments, your only choice is to sign up for a Click&Buy account. Click&Buy is a "shady" company that gets an "F" grade from the BBB and appears to have miscellaneous hidden charges here and there. SE will no longer directly bill your credit/debit card.

If you opt to pay for FFXI with Crysta, you have to manually purchase Crysta to refill your account for every billing cycle. The problem, besides the fact that you have to MANUALLY do it, is that Crysta only comes in blocks of $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100. It does not evenly match up with what FFXI actually costs. Thus, you end up paying more money in advance to SE and, even though you get a "free" month every once in a while, who's to say you're even going to still be playing? Maybe you'll quit in that time ... and have no way to cash out your remaining Crysta except to subscribe to FFXIV (when it's actually marketable enough for SE to start charging for it). You can still use a credit/debit card to buy Crysta, but you can only do that if you have a Verified Paypal account (meaning, your bank account is tied to your PayPal account, or you have a PayPal MasterCard). There's other options like buying a card or some shit from a retail store, but the point is, none of the new options are as simple as just giving SE your fucking credit card number and getting billed automatically.

Beyond that, some other things that are pissing people off: SE is silent on the issues thus far of course, and apparently the JP's still have the option for recurring payments on their credit cards directly to SE, as evidenced by this: http://common.allakhazam.com/images/...70db4c5609.jpg

Oh! And then there's the fact that billing cycles are now 30 days instead of a month, translating into 13 charges per year instead of 12 (ok not quite but... yeah). Fucking shitty.
