I got emails saying it was taken out too
Soooo did anyone else get hit with a fat charge from SE today? No idea why.
Called and was on hold for a half hour and hung up.

$50? What? The two payments under that are for Crysta for a month. Does that pay for August? then we'll have to do the same bullshit process on August 31st?
If I'm understanding right, then you cannot access your account or play FFXI until they finish manually transferring all accounts to the new system. Which could take an unknown amount of time. I presume that after all accounts are completely transferred by them then you can access your account again and change info etc.
Sure would have been nice if we had some kind of advanced warning about charging new services or having due fees about a month ago.
Dude, that shit was easy to bypass. I was in your same boat and it only took me like 3 weeks to figure out that you could use a ps2/3 or xbox (don't have one? have a friend do it for you) to use any credit card you'd like. It was definitely a hoop to jump through but on fire? Give me a break. I wish this current bullshit was that easy to get by.
So, the hoop that I should have jumped through was buying a PS3 or X-Box 360 and a new copy of the game so I could bypass 3D Secure? That sounds a lot easier and more cost effective than buying Crysta!
I don't know a single person who plays this game in real life. None of my friends or family own PS3 or 360. (Although everyone in my family owns a Wii. And for some reason, I feel bad about this...)
This is a giant hoop for PC Gamers, even if I did know someone who owned a PS3/360 it is pretty damn inconvenient.
This is a great summation for the entire situation. Suddenly "Wandering Bladder" or "African Hydraulic Fever" are important now because some bint from a pretty vampire show has it even though people have been dealing with it for years.
Anyone still having this problem, even after they charged my bank account already?
Spoiler: show
Pretty sure there was a way to bypass 3D secure using a browser. Regardless, you could always get around the 3D secure by just outright calling them and updating it that way.
You've been playing this game for how long now and you don't have one person that you play with that has a ps2 or xbox copy of the game that you can trust to put your info in for you? I did it for 3 different online friends after I figured out it worked for me.
Extremely inconvenient, but it let you completely ignore the 3DS bullshit. If I could bypass crysta and clickandbuy with some inconvenient, one-time set up method like that again that let me use my credit card just like I used to then I'd do that in a heart beat.
I tried that but it didn't work for me since I had bought that security token the same month that my credit card expired, so I actually owed them money since they send the token then bill you on the next month. They fed me some line about carrying a balance and weren't able to bypass anything to take my credit card information over the phone. Three weeks of trying on the phone and then I found out about that I could bypass it all using a ps3.
You could call their non-toll free number and wait for an hour or so to talk to a customer service representative to be able to update a non-3D Secure card, which is known as a hoop. The last time I tried to update my credit card information that way, the customer support guy outright refused to update my credit card information and so I was unable to play at all until they added Crysta.
So for me it is either Crysta or no FFXI. The only people I see who have a legitimate reason to be upset about the change are people who live in countries that don't have Crysta support. Beyond that, the system is not a tenth as inconvenient as people make it out to be.
I whole heartedly disagree with you, sir. If a company's objective is to be profitable then they have to please customers in order to keep them paying. They are not pleasing me with these changes and I will stop paying them come August 31st because I'm not satisfied anymore. It's on them to fix it if they want to keep receiving my money, if not then there's a million other things that I can spend it on. I'm not alone with these feelings, either.
I just got charged my crysta, and thankfully, for the correct amount.
I'm certainly not going to call you a liar, but I had to change my credit card a few times during a very short period of time, none of which were VBV supported, and my total time all together on the phone might have equaled an hour. Each time I called them it was a short hold, followed by the standard questions and then card info. Each call took maybe 10~15min tops. Obviously the have terrible track record, I won't deny that, but my experience with them every time I had to change my card was as painless and easy as it could have been. The only thing I could have complained about was having to call it all, but for what it was is hardly worth complaining about at all.
It certainly led to me question the validity of awfulness of at least some of the claims about the customer service they received people received. I know plenty of people that think being put on hold at all, and the calling not being as snappy as you'd like constitutes as terrible customer service.
And that is your right. Maybe I would feel differently if anytime that I had to change my Credit Card information in the past I would hear Guile's theme in my head or if Crysta wasn't my only option to play the game. And maybe people would feel differently if they were unable to play the game and Crysta allowed them to.
