I do have a US bank account, but I cannot send money back there very often, and what money I do send is supposed to be for other things. If they do not add another payment option, then yes I will probably use my US account to buy Crysta. By allowing my accounts to lapse temporarily if no other options are given will hopefully help persuade SE to give us another way to pay. I've been using my Korean credit card to pay via POL for 3+ years now, it's stupid that I can't still pay the same way. Also, having to buy Crysta in bulk amounts rather than for exactly the amount we need is beyond stupid, especially given that Japanese are allowed to do it. Japanese can also still have their cards charged directly still, rather than using a 3rd party.
They won't allow me to use this credit card to put money onto paypal, only from a bank account. Now that our credit card is approved on Paypal, I'm going to start the process of getting our bank account approved, see it it works that way. It's really silly to have to jump through this many hoops just to keep playing this game... I'd be surprised if they don't lose alot of people over this once it's more widely known... So many people in for an unpleasant surprise on Aug 31 when they are forced to change over...
edit: Nope, they don't allow transfer from our bank account, even though it already seems to be approved and listed on the account. Seems my only option is to use my US bank account, which I do not want to do, and I will allow my FFXI accounts to expire for a while before I do.

Yeah, for a company that's got so much money poured into an MMO that hasn't flown yet (If ever..), you'd think they'd offer more incentives to play the one that at least still has some playerbase backing. I'm in a place in FFXI where I barely log on and I pop 15 dollars into my debit card account ever month for it. Making it this annoying just to GIVE them money is really a turn off to players like me who barely log in.
I get the feeling not only will it be a big surprised for half the playerbase on august 31st, but its going to be the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for players like me, too.
I thought SE said they were going to see what they could do about changing it for NA players? Was that just?
I think complaints is an understatement
Hey guys! NEW AND EXCITING UPDATE \(^.^)/!!!
Spoiler: show
I like "A: Square Enix has opted to employ an external company for the processing of payments to offer the highest level of security to customer transactions." instead of "A: SE is tired of dealing with this billing bullshit and would rather pay someone else to handle it."
/vomitWhile we don't have specific details to share at this time, we are continuing to look for ways to improve the payment processing options. We will continue to take all the feedback we receive as we strive to make the experience as user-friendly as possible for all of our customers going forward.
You got 3 weeks to make me not feel like a 2nd grade customer. This is not that hard to fix!
1. Add Paypal as automated option.
2. Add fee values of Crysta, also automated to be monthly added.
3. Just add direct payment by credit card
Just pick one of these.
MAKE IT HAPPEN SE!

What a crock of shit, the entire response from that dev.
The only one they could really do without legal hassle is crysta by exact amount, and that's probably being held up by their marketing dept. deciding whether losing their cash grab trick is worth the potential customers they'd lose. (In that light I don't think they're going to really make any big changes until they figure out how many subscriptions they have or haven't lost after the transfer period to get some data. Of course it could be hastened by enough uproar I'm sure...)
Hopefully SE will crack like Blizzard did with the RealID issue (though to be fair this isn't as bad as RealID [can use Paypal at least] but it's still bad).
Sadly they knew and they're offering a somewhat useful "limited edition item" if you do transfer before the 31st:
"The transferral procedures will differ depending on whether you possess a Square Enix account or not, so please transfer your PlayOnline ID according to the appropriate instructions below.
Users who transfer by August 31 will receive a FINAL FANTASY XI in-game item! Find out more."
Oh that evil SE. I'm sure there's lots of people who don't care about the item but at the same time there are probably people who do and is going to do it anyway just to get the limited edition item (see TF2 and people preordering games they won't be playing just to get a genuine-quality hat).
Transfer anyway and don't just pay come the time your account gets deactivated? Was what I did with my mule's account.
Still can't transfer my main POL account though. SE seems to need more than 48hrs to reply to a simple password-reset request via e-mail, courtesy of their broken online chat support and lack of toll-free customer support line.
I will be doing what waffles said.
Also, I'm pretty sure I already expressed my feelings toward the stupid "special item" they're trying to bribe people with.
It can suck my dick.
Now, if they were maybe offering something actually useful, like a new mog sack, I would probably cave and continue to hate SE. -_-
