Ehh, I don't think it's so much of that as it is guys are just slowly turning into whiny bitches who want things handed to them or lower their standards out of laziness or confidence issues. It gets old after the 27th conversation of: "Man, I wish I was <insert something self esteem related>." They keep at it with that attitude without attempting to be empathetic or addressing whatever issue they have with themselves. Guys really just do it to themselves. To me, it seems like one of the issues is that the whole High School mentality still lingers after it should have subsided.
Male self esteem issues may come from tje same place female self esteem issues come from. The media.
For me, I don't think I'm the most handsome looking thing in the world, but I don't consider myself ugly either. Does catch me off guard whenever I get a compliment though, since definitely not something I get a lot, but yea. Always just considered myself average, which I actually have 0 problem with lol
I stopped worrying about whether I looked good and just focused on how to stand-out. Best way I've found to get conversations going is by showing someone something they haven't seen before or telling them something they never knew that doesn't insult their intelligence.
I grew up being severely ill with better looking brothers. Watching them get girl after girl while I couldn't get one because I was sick did some serious damage to my self esteem. Fuck, with the shit I've been through I'm amazed I even have a girlfriend, let alone a fucking smoking hot one who tells me daily that she won't leave me no matter how sick I get.
Sometimes it's just a matter of confidence. You're an attractive dude, your medical problems in the past don't really mean shit in the grand scheme of things (I haven't been keeping up much, sorry, but the last I remember your health was vastly improved and holding). I think you're probably catching on by now, but just being yourself and not stressing over bullshit makes a huge difference. Confidence comes from within, and it looks like you're doing pretty well on that score based on the pictures you posted.
inb4 "ive always had a jailbird fetish, post pix plz"
Just don't go crazy on her and you're OK. A little crazy is acceptable, all things considered. But if you catch yourself thinking that she's 'supposed' to do something for you or anything like that, back it up and talk to someone before you drive over the cliff.
TL;DR - don't be an asshole, people will love you. :D
Who cares about your self esteem, you already have the girl?

Yeah, never really helped me either.
I had some major self-esteem issues in the looks department for a long time... probably still do on at least some level now... but for the most part, I've 'grown' out of it over the last couple of years. I just stopped caring so much about what other people may or may not think about me, and tried to focus on the things I could control (physical condition, hygiene, clothing, etc) and being grateful for what I do have going for me. I'm still thrown off when someone compliments me or thinks I'm attractive; just not quite used to it yet still. I don't necessarily think I'm ugly anymore at this point, but more just not convinced I'm anything to write home about. Meh.
