    Spoiler: show
My self-esteem on looks and such was shit for 90% of my life, and I'm still pretty overly critical and working on that self-confidence thing... can't seriously believe I could be a model of some sort right now. But hey, thanks!

I don't know, I look at my life, and as much as I try not to compare myself to others, I feel like I'm way behind and it makes me feel bad. It's not like I'm just dicking around, I got my nursing license, worked and saved while transitioning, had the surgery, and it's like I'm finally at square one socially. I guess it just hurts to see my peers so far ahead all the time (because they don't have to deal with the extra stuff I do.) What I'm trying to say is, what's stopping him from being somewhere I want to be? I'm probably a horrible person for looking at people and wondering "Well what the hell is wrong with you that you're not at xxx milestone?"
Funny, I kind of grew up with and around people in the opposite situation; perhaps for the worse, but it is what it is.

Not a single one of my closest/regular friends, family or even co-workers around my age are married. None of them even have kids, that I can think of right now. Even when I look at not-so-close friends/family/etc, and/or ones that are a bit older, it seems incredibly rare to find many that are married and/or settling down.

Most of them have other things they're still trying to get straight in their life, like their schooling/education, living situation, transportation situation, the career/job thing, savings/finances, etc, so it makes sense to some of them to want that stuff straightened out before committing to something major (doesn't sound too dissimilar from you?).

I know that I don't really feel any particular rush or urgency, and am currently prioritizing the career and saving up for some major financial decisions over the next 1-2 years.

I think as a gal you tend to feel a bit more of a rush to do these things sooner, but it's definitely not as urgent for most guys. Statistically, the median age for marriage is about 28 for guys, and I'm still 2 years away from that.

And well, if I had to say right now, I'm pretty sure I'd fall a bit past the average too.

Funny enough, stripping or modeling can help build confidence, because it confirms to you that you actually are attractive and it's not just your friends or family members telling you that to make you feel good.

    Fair enough point; makes sense.

That was actually one of my big self-esteem issues, because I grew to always feel like people that complimented me were lying just to make me feel better about myself.

I got picked on a lot for how I looked (curly hair, bigger lips, half-white/black) growing up, and never had much luck with girls all the way to the end of high school. All the while, everyone in the family would go on and on about how cute/handsome/good-looking I was through all those years, so I just started thinking anyone and everyone that complimented me was just lying to be nice and/or biased.

Mostly long over all that stuff now, but I still second-guess compliments sometimes and struggle on the self-confidence stuffs.

I can relate a lot actually. I have (or had, to some extent) the same issue of second guessing complements, because when i was younger i thought i was ugly.

I think a lot of transition is the result of a lot of self-searching, and finding out what I want out of life. That being said, I feel lucky that I do most everything I want to do that I can do alone, but really only having work/family/alone/computer/phone gets old when you want to hang out with peers. All of my friends are in long-term relationships and have all but fallen off the face of the Earth. I know they're active, but they do things together, or with their families. They have a lot more people to interact with, and I'm sure get burned out and want time where they can just veg out on the couch. I get that and it's fine, I would do the exact same thing if I was in their situation. I just need more single friends who are up for doing stuff out and about, and more connections possibly means more guys. (*'-') Now to go about "making friends", urgh. I haven't decided if I'm completely against telling people when I start hospital work. It could be a good place to chit chat with other girls and make connections/go get drunk. lol (I haven't gone out drinking all the much in my life, don't judge me!)

As for the child issue, as much as I dream about little hands clinging to my dress/pant leg/tshirt, running errands with my own procession of little ducklings, and sitting down at the table, feeding my kids the foods I ate growing up (teaching them to pick apart seafood and eat with their hands like Filipino people do!), I think I would settle for dog babies and nieces and nephews. I just worry, as a nurse, if long shifts would be difficult when taking care of a dog (I love cats, too, but dogs smother you with love!) I've already kind of forced this conversation on my brother, about him needing to get married have kids soon (and making up his mind if he wants to stay in his 6 year on-again off-again relationship with this girl he's never said he loved), because my mother and I are waiting. I really want to be an aunt (we had the coolest aunt growing up, and I want to treat my nieces/nephews like she treated us!)

If I had your kind of friends/family/coworkers, I think I'd feel much better!

I think prioritizing a more secure future is definitely the way to go, I know in my case, there's comfort knowing that there's really nothing I would do differently. I can only think of transitioning earlier, and knowing I wanted to be a nurse in high school and avoiding the extra semester at college switching majors/programs, and the extra semester in community college just for an English credit that included a research paper in it's curriculum so that I could petition to get into the nursing program. (And maybe just a couple stupid things I did as a child that I got in trouble for, but haven't impacted my life now. lol)

Like I told richardd when he first posted that chunkier picture with the short curly hair, you're handsome. You're just a handsome person. Lose weight, gain weight, less muscle, more muscle, lower body fat %, you're still handsome. You'll still be handsome in your 30's/40's/50's because your parents did a good job. Stop worrying, the handsomeness can't somehow disappear (short of a major, disfiguring event, and I even went to nursing school with a girl that had burn scars all over her body, and she was still beautiful!) Just accept the compliments, let them boost your self-confidence, and stay a humble man. There's nothing to worry about!

It has its positives and negatives! It's good to not feel rushed, forced, or obligated into those big commitments by the friends surrounding you, but it almost makes you too comfortable with putting things like it off too (and even puts some pressure against doing it).

Thanks lol, appreciate the kind words. Hope you know the same applies your way too! I've definitely been much better about this stuff now, but it was just hard for a while when growing up because nothing seemed to add up in my mind (people kept saying I'm handsome, while everyone made fun the way I looked, and no one wanted to date me).

And oops, sorry, didn't mean for this to get all derailed. D:

Took up jogging, lost 20 pounds, and feeling quite well. Even dropped a cup size. Whoo. (>_>) Yes I'm a camera/selfie whore. Comes from being overweight and "ugly" most of my life until this past year.

Edit: oh and one more from a blacklight party I thought was cool..
