True to form, the platforming in this game is complete ass, just as every MMO that tries to do it; Celestial Falls Catching Fireflies is a prime example. There's also a lot of little things piling up on the gaming experience, mostly UI related, that make running around and doing things a much bigger chore then it needs to be. Indicators are far too small and don't stand out in the quest hubs, and the map doesn't help that much either.

The game is beautiful though, and I'm hoping to enjoy a dungeon to see what the game is really like, combat wise.

If anyone has an extra weekend code, I'm looking for something to kill a few hours this weekend. It'd be appreciated! <3

Sucks to hear the UI update didn't fix this, trying to play and level (outside of instances) with other people was far too big a headache to ever even consider this game for me. Hopefully there will be some addons to fix all the problems with it in the future, but I definitely won't be checking the game out until I at least see a price drop (or F2P, lol) and some improvements to the horrible UI.

Ok, so I played this thing for the first time this weekend, and actually quite a good bit of time in. While it certainly has some charm to it, it ultimately wasn't for me. The art style/aesthetic was just not to my tastes. Also, when I finally got around to the PvP it was a hot mess. There were effects and tells all over the ground, everywhere. Circle tells, square tells, cone tells, line tells, I felt like I spent more time looking at the ground than what was in front of me. The warplots looks really fun, but not being able to tell wtf is going on in PvP is a big "no". After I saw that warplot video, I was kinda excited to try this game, but alas. Here's to hoping that Frontlines is at least somewhat decent. *crosses fingers*

Yeah, PvP seemed like a gigantic clusterfuck (and one that I intend to avoid) but the PvE aspect of the game was what made me preorder the game. One of the things I really dislike is the atrociously bad default UI, but I have hope that the community will create some amazing addons in the future to remedy the problem.

I'm having trouble deciding whether I want go DPS Warrior or Esper for retail, probably lvl up Spellslinger the next weekend to see how it plays.

Had a long post that got eaten, so I'll just say this: They have a lot of good things going here, but there's several glaring issues that should be changed/fixed/removed or this game is going to fumble on the opening kickoff. Some of them shouldn't even be an issue, in this day and age, so I really don't understand their thinking on why they are doing some of the things they've done.

if you can get the chance to try a beta test, I would give it a go.

but it's pretty much the same old MMO we've all played. Spam through quest text to kill mobs for NPC Whatshisface, talents (or amps) that do % increases to stats or give an ability for a role of your choosing, combat is fun I suppose. but instead of standing still spamming buttons you're strafing and moving while spamming.

the paths that they showed seemed super cool but after getting to check it out are lackluster as fuck. I chose Settler (I could build shit in towns or quest hubs that gave buffs for anyone/everyone) but the building I would prop up would last for 30 seconds and by the time I shouted for people to get their buffs the building would disappear. The buffs themselves would last I think 10min.

Just not the game I was hoping it would be.

UI - I had real issues with this, especially map Icons and quest indicators. I could barely see them as I ran around on the zoom I like to play in. I could be right next to it but it was covered by NPC names. Another example were the guard notification map pings; it put a green circle under the merchant's green circle, making it near impossible to see unless you knew where to look. It needs an over-haul, and I don't by the comunity add-on argument to fix it. In fact, I'm wary of it because patches broke shit all the time in WoW and I hated having to manage them.

Some other points are how they handle quest indicators. The arrows are a great concept, but they need a toggle to keep it turned on for a quest, so you don't have to constantly click them to see where to go. They are also highly in-accurate for some quests, where they lead you to the map grid area but not to the specific spot where you have to investigate something, making you wander around trying to find something that may not even stick out against the environment. Explorer really has this issue with their scavenger hunts and Claim quests. While they do usually have an indicator as to how close you are, its far too strict on when it tells you that you're getting close; I could walk a few yards and the indicator would spike all over the place until I was juuuuuust right.

Challenge/Quests - Unless the make any click-able object able to be clicked on by any PC, some of these are going to be giant cluster fucks as people race around trying to get to them first. This type of issue shouldn't exist in today's MMO as it's been solved multiple times already.

Platform Physics - They absolutely can suck, depending on what the game wants you to do. MMO never get this right because environments, almost by definition, aren't static across the game world, so there's no uniformity in how your character will interact with it. Throw in some odd, additional physics, related to some challenges, and it can be a horrible experience.

Taxi/Flight Paths - There's no reason the system should force me to click every flight path location just to make a 'path' back to a city or a quest hub. It's so Vanilla WoW you can taste it.

Class Stats - For Espers, they need to merge Insight and Moxie into one trait, as there's zero reason to differentiate them; that's what abilities are for. Gearing is already an RNG smorgasbord, and in my example, I went 15-20 and only found Healing gear, which means I had to do lvl 20 content in lvl 14ish gear, which meant even normal enemies beat the crap out of me. I'm sure other classes have a similar issue.

Esper Mobility - in a game where action oriented combat is the rule, having a class that is a still-nuke, in light armor, no less, just doesn't jive well. It might get better, in the later levels, but I really don't see a reason to have so many still-nuke abilities. On the flip side, I was also in some world-boss raid fights where I didn't have to move much at all, and that made for a pretty boring experience. The class needs work.

Crafting - In all of the MMO games I've played, this is the most convoluted system I've seen. I really didn't have time to dig into this, but from the gathering, to the making, to the use, I'm having a hard time seeing new MMO players be able to pick that up. There's also a resource struggle between salvaging things, for mats, and gold, and unless you're selling everything, you're likely not getting even the least expensive mount, come LVL 15.

Dungeons - They either need to do a better job at teaching the concepts, or they need to tone the F down their dungeon. I couldn't find a group that could figure out how to tank/dps/heal to get past the first corner on Stormtalon. There were zero issues in the LVL 15 Adventure, so if this is what the beginner dungeon is, it could mean shit's really not right at max level.

There are a lot of things I did like, from quest/story immersion to how beautiful the environments are, and I absolutely love how they implementing Housing, as it's really it's own game/pastime within the game. Yes, it's still mostly the same MMO we've played before, but if they can fix the above things, they'll be in a much better spot come release. I don't have a strong feeling that this will happen, given only a month left to release.

Well, just tried to pre-order Wildstar from GMG... no go. Bank account was charged twice, but then two reversals. Shady if you ask me. I'd rather fork over the 15$ extra to Amazon or something.

My bank refuses to work with GMG. I think I heard most banks think it's a gambling site or something. I just use paypal and never had an issue since.
