Some people invest a lot, or are looking to invest a lot into a single avatar. At least in my mind from FFXI/FFXIV and having a name I wanted because everything was tied to that avatar for the most part. Nowadays with most games though it's pointless, as usually you'll have 1-5 characters you play.
I've had used the same name since FFXI JP release. If I lost it, sure I would be upset. Going onto the OF and complaining, threatening to cancel preorder, hell even threatening the devs (people say it happened but I didn't see any poss) is a whole new level of crazy.
Well, while I'd never go to that type of level, it's completely unacceptable that they screwed it up so poorly. It's more understandable, in this game, because, as I understand the current end game model, alts aren't an option for getting into the elder content. You're pretty much locked into the character you chose as if you're too late to the party, the buss will have already left and you just won't catch up. I fail to understand how these types of issues keep happening, in this day and age; seems like a good chance for a clusterfsk launch too.
End of the beta event going on in an hour (10 PST). Will probably be tons of mobs etc etc already down to like 15 fps

Reminds me of the end of Rift's beta.
If anyone wants a retail account for cheap, let me know. I preordered with GMG and they don't do refunds if they mail out keys, which they did with Wildstar due to the pre-order bonuses. Long story short, stuff came up and I won't be playing anymore.
edit: sold
do people get to test any endgame stuff during these betas? I'll probably hold off a few months and see hows the endgame/raids of this game before even thinking of touching this one.
Yeah, I think large gaming communities got contacted and were able to test raid content, It has been going on for months.
Has it been said which communities were contacted for internal testing? Now the NDA has lifted I am curious if those people have spoke up. I expect they contacted the big WoW guilds as it's the closest game to their raid design.
Many of the raids were open to everyone as long as you were lvl 50 during beta. There were lots of streams showing them.
Voodoo was one of the early raid videos posted, and at one point in time, they were the #1 guild in Rift, so I assumed that they probably invited other Rift guilds (under the NC soft umbrella). That video was from a bit before the open beta, so some teams were probably given maxed characters for testing purposes.
Voodoo has been a big guild in other names and they have a rep for raiding well. NCSoft also had nothing to do with Rift, it's a Trion Worlds game. I wouldn't be surprised seeing guilds like Fires of Heaven etc getting into more raid testing as more are developed.
People were upset about the names because the made the reservations global and also allowed you to reserve an even more limited commodoity, guild names, at the same time. Aside from the fact that most servers have a guild list where any troll could have and did go through 1 by 1 attempting to reserve someone elses name, the reservations are not just global but they also last for 14 days regardless of whether or not someone uses it.
I'd rather log in at 12:01 and take my chances during EA because at least then I'd have a more legitimate chance of getting to level 15 before anyone else and buying a guild.
It is when your identity is your guild name and character name; one you've established throughout several games. I don't profess to be that type of person, but with how much money is in games, and how it's tied to name recognition, I can see people being upset. For others, it's that their online identity is their alter-ego and without it, there might not be much point in playing if you can't be that person in game.
XxLEGOLUSxX Gotta use the X's and different vowel that still makes the word sound the same.
In this game the name is considered different if the capitalization is different.
eg if someone reserved Legolas
Then LegoLas would not be reserved.
However, for guild names this is not the case which is just another reason why this was a terrible idea.
