Im in.
Eh.
No.
had a bud of mine try to talk me into playing this mess. said nope. got him playing ff14 with me instead lol
My problem is that the game is completely boring.
And by boring I mean:
The starting zones are boring.
The questing is boring.
The leveling is boring.
Exploring is boring.
Lore is boring.
The world is boring.
And the UI was atrocious.
I had a few problems with it. First off the quests had to be the most boring quests ever, recently just picked up MoP and a lot of quests were fun/funny/interesting (loved the sully quests).
Second problem were bugs. Every game has them but Carbine did nothing about them. Abilities getting locked out and unable to use. LoS issues when healing. Performance issues. Bugged quests. Server problems. Best part was being in a dungeon over an hour long and the server crashes and kicks everyone out... multiple times.
Third would be silly design choices. I think it's fucked up they launched with the gold medal system and people who rushed to 50 got decked out. A month later they fuck over everyone who took their time, left a little sour taste in my mouth. Had they just launched it that way it wouldn't have been an issue. If the game wasn't grindy enough they sure as hell fixed that.
Fourth had to be PVP and botters. It was so annoying doing pvp when half of you team was bots, you couldn't win. That went on til I quit. Bots in the open also fucked up my enjoyment as they took every fucking resource. PvP was too imbalanced and unfun. Especially being 2 shotted by people who rushed to 50 and got 1800 and once again anyone who took their time got fucked.
Too tedious and not rewarding. I loved being a healer, it was a lot of fun. But that was probably the only good thing I could say.
What killed it for me was that fucking ice zone. And the fact that I didn't want to commit to a guild for raiding because I don't have the energy for that crap anymore.
MMO's overall are probably just on a rapid decline. WoW itself is/has been losing steam and even with the WoD hype, it will always be fighting the current. (I'm not saying the game is dead but it's not getting any bigger or popular, relatively speaking)
as previously said the questing/leveling system in MMO's needs a dire change. I mostly get bored because they're TOO solo-friendly, too many bullshit spam enter quests and the zones are annoyingly huge. I don't know what I want from an MMO though, I'd haveta really think about it and I don't think it would pertain to this thread.
They really did MAX hype this game. Had people honestly believing it would be a WoW killer within a few months or years.
People were cumming just from watching the dev trailers and whatnot. What a rapid decline, though. I know this game had to be better, quality-wise,than the hilarious Star Wars fiasco, and yet the subs died just as fast.
At the end of the day they game will be seen as a cash grab by hardcore MMO fans, and a failed WoW clone by casuals. Really sucks to be in that position, but it is the cards they played. They should have marketed the game as a causal alternative to WoW that was set in a futuristic setting, rather than the most hardcore MMO anyone would every play in their lifetimes. They also should have kept the content coming, or promised big additions to the game constantly.
It just reinforces the fact that hardcore players still fall into a very small market.
It's funny to watch the hyper decline of this game (and SWOTOR) because those people supporting these games always pressed that it would be the collapse of or steal many of WoW's subs, meanwhile SE pushed the support of having a strong game as WoW to base their reinvented and re-imaged FFXIV game. The game that was a massive failure and dead on arrival slowly became the number #2 or #3 MMO next to WoW while the other two games being pushed as WoW killers got the boom into nothing.
Frankly, when I saw their focus was on a so-called hardcore crowd I knew it was doomed to fail. Hardcore isn't just about age or free time, it has a lot to do with options as well. Back when XI and WoW were pretty much the only MMOs out there, you didn't really have a choice but to stick with the game you liked/knew the best. But now there's a hundred alternatives that either play better, are cheaper/free or don't dick you around. Why would you put up with mechanics and shit that annoys you if there's another MMO around the corner? Hell, there's another MMO you could play right now as an alternative.
The game has changed. Hardcore seems synonymous with wasting your time rather than challenging you.
I would posit that hardcore always meant wasting your time instead of being challenging.
Taking the rose-tinted glasses off, I can't think of a single "hardcore" experience that wasn't mostly defined by the amount of time it took to do something.
Pretty sure my playtime in the beta days, on the server stress test... after playing I even said somewhere in this thread that I had no interest in the game. I don't let previews and promises "they show" sway me to buy into something. Not even to all the people that came to me and be like "zomg game is amazing, you should play" and sit and talk about it. I would not be surprised if people are paid to hype a game (companies used to pay people to add amazing reviews for products on websites, but i think theirs a law against that now...?)
I go by personal interest (and no, aurin race with cat ears is not a deciding factor!) and beta play or whatever free service a game may let you try their game first to see how good it is. Open beta/stress tests are probably the best free time to play, because thats nearing the final product, what your playing there is what your going to be experiencing throughout the game most likely, and it won't change much.
No need to waste money on hype, try it first and see if you like it, or wait it out. Speaking of which, I'll be trying out archage, but there is something telling me, the community(especially 6months+) will be small for that already...
Ya, tried the ten day trial that people were posting here told me all i needed to know about the game. I had fun with the game. I just couldnt get a feel of the world at all.
What about combat? I read in my monthly mag it was some innovative system where you gotta face target/be in range... but none of you mentioned combat lol![]()
Several did, and I did several times in this thread O_o
Its like tera, you need to face the target to fight. The game has a fun hack n slash feel to it (I played some dual claw class, absolutely ass raped stuff at low lvls) but you need to actually think when you fight stuff at higher levels or they will ass rape you really hard (only played to lv30's, I'm sure it got harder later).
The whatevercrap floor lightup thing that showed where enemies ability would hit was kind of nice (was kinda hard to dodge still with the server lag back in the day). I think the best part was the combat for me, although it was kind of funny how you could go basically naked and still do the same damage, and take the same damage... (naked catgirl aurin with nude mod awww yeaaah)
the combat was fun. everything else blew ass chunks.
I got to level 8 and quit. Shit was boring and not fun at all.
This was pretty much my experience as well. Didn't even like the combat, felt like Guild Wars 2 (didn't like this game either) with a bunch of lines on the ground. Had a few friends that were really into this game trying to keep me playing and just falling for hype way too much. I'm glad I didn't play more than a few hours in open beta. They all ended up quitting eventually.
Only thing really positive I could say about the game is that the first large zone I was in was quite pretty (if you're into the art style of the game anyways). Everything else was pretty much a huge passssssss for me.
To be fair, Wildstar was sort of DoA. I don't mean that to be mean, but it did not sell well and the game was being discounted before its release. poor initial sales, and then tons of bugs, serious attunement process, raiding trash that respawned in 20 minutes... turned a lot of people off
raid trash respawned in 20min? rofl
only thing that was kind of fun, but looked like it could endup being a major pain the ass, was the housing. Looked like you had to quest/find/craft/raid? /rep grind? to get other housing parts...
