what's everyone's thoughts? i wouldn't immediately disagree with the top 10, but there's an awful lot of games to think about and maybe even add to it. what do you all think? i'm being reminded that i have a lot of catching up to do.

I really hate when gaming websites make their own top 50 picks but I have to say that is a well done list and I am happy with SotC being no. 1

wth is Mother 3, it's the only one in the top 10 I haven't heard of.

Ever hear of Earthbound? Same series, just different name in Japan. The third game never got localized, and was released on the GBA in Japan.

As for the list, not going to discuss it's validity with a 50ft pole.

the whole 1-50 numbering thing is pointless but skimming the list now, i'd have put these much higher: star wars: kotor, vagrant story, bioshock, zelda: wind waker

i'd have ranked tony hawk 4 over 3 and had it on there (sorry to this crowd, but that game was perfect for me at the time i played it)

as much as i did love it, i'm surprised banjo-tooie is on there when they had mario galaxy on there too

i'm really surprised there's no dragon age or either mass effect

still thinking about the list i guess, i wouldn't think of ff9 as better than 10, 12, or 13... and XI too if WoW is allowed on here... but then i guess i should just go back to the RPG thread...

just realized no assassin's creed(s) on there either

Top (insert number here) lists are idiotic because they are entirely subjective. You could never get everyone to agree on something that relies on ranking based on personal taste and preference.

I agree top list are all subjective. But it was at least better then IGN's top 100 games. Read through that and Metal Gear solid 4 didn't even make the list despite it being one of the few games to receive a full 10.

well the general consensus of every top whatever list is that half life 2 is in the top 5 every time, so at least they can agree on one thing none of us can deny

I've seen lists that I respectfully disagree with, and then I've seen lists that make me want to steal a copy of the magazine, eat it, digest it, and shit it out onto another copy of the magazine that I have also stolen.

this list is more of the latter variety.

I wholeheartedly agree with their #1. If I'm trying to be as objective as possible, putting away all nostalgia and genre preferences. SotC is the most overall well-constructed and executed video game experience I have ever had. It's not flawless, nor is any other game, but it's the closest thing to it that I've seen. It was a pinnacle of what electronic entertainment could deliver story and emotion-wise without relying on crutches like lengthy dialog, cutscenes, and explicitly repetitive tasks.

sorry but sotc is on there to get people obsessing just like a few of you are, while a lot of people won't agree with it being #1. theres no arguing with it being a great game, but all magazines have a massive hardon for team ico

edit: looking over the list, i'm realizing how messed up the top 10 is as really, half the games shouldn't be in it. mario galaxy is the most overrated mario game, valkyria is good but reviewers seem to have some massive thing for how stylized it was. beyong good and evil is a great game, but are we making a list of lost gems or the top games? god of war 2? really? portal was revolutionary and spawned a million memes, but another example of reviewers with a hardon. mother..i know people like it but really, pick games that people have actually played. halflife2....gameplay, story, multiplayer....no argument.

Agreed. There's no list that should have God of War 2 and not DMC 3 lol
