Am I the only one that thinks that buildings like these are cool? I look at super tall buildings like this and all I can think of are those Sci-Fi city-scapes that have insane buildings that dwarf everything.

I think the thing that this video fails to capture is how fucking tiring it is to climb like that. I did one about half that size, and I had to take several breaks on the way up and down.

Actually that's exactly what they will tell you they are doing. Most those middle eastern countries offer jack shit except oil exports. Dubai has already begun the process of turning the place into a tourist attraction for the wealthy. As tourist spots like the Caribbean and what not they could have a sustainable source of income once the oil is gone.

Thing looks hideous, and I totally consider it cheating for buildings to get narrowed to a point at the top just to be the tallest.

They don't do it "just to be the tallest", it's also a structural stability incentive to reduce mass as you get higher on a building which is pretty important when you are going to be building over half a mile high with such a small footprint.

I wonder how much sway it will have at the top. The thing is probably loaded with inertial compensation devices.

The elevators going up to the observatory deck will travel at 10 meters per second. That's 22.3 miles per hour. It will take you one minute and forty seconds to reach the top of the tower.

How many G's would that be pulling? Ugh, my stomach is turning just at the thought of taking that.
