    Just so we're clear, there's no physical button on your notebook anywhere that's used to disable the wifi card right?

    urghhhhhh. I think I may have to give up and just use an ethernet cable. Using the intel website it said it doesn't even recognize what my wifi card is and to contact my manufacturer (which is sony) I guess I could take the laptop apart and see what the card is? That or i'll try giving sony a call but I doubt they will help.

    And yes there is a physical wifi button on the laptop but it is set to be on.

    check your bios to see if the network card is disabled.
