one of the better face offs in the show
one of the better face offs in the show
Thought that was another great episode... Glaber has turned into a great character. Agron is annoying as all hell. Lastly, I think Liam has really grown into the role of Spartacus, he's done a fantastic job thus far
Edit: Anyone know if they have casted Crassus for this season? Can't wait until he is introduced
Episode was great. All the other performances on the show pull Liam with them
He's doing ok as Spartacus. I think if he had been the starting actor it'd make me like him, but Andy is/was far superior. The rest of the cast though, like Cichy mentioned, elevate each other. I am liking this season a lot but I think it's still in last place of the three.
In a recent interview with the creator he stated that he won't be seen in Vengeance. He didn't sound like he was cast yet, but that he obviously was going to be a part of the show at somepoint.
One of the things I see running through the show is this idea that a society founded on something as dehumanizing as slavery must fail. The idea seems to be that that the chickens will eventually come home to roost. They can't just get away with that forever.
There is certainly that feeling. Now, that said, when we introduce Marcus Crassus, you're going to get a different view of slavery altogether. He doesn't appear in "Vengeance," but he will [be introduced] down the road.
Marcus Crassus was one of the richest men in history and he was also one of the biggest slave owners at that time, but it's a different view of slavery than we have seen up to this point. There were a lot of [different kinds of] slaves that Marcus Crassus had: He had craftsman; he had teachers; he had artisan. He had architects and they were slaves, but they were allowed to come and go. They had their own houses. They had their own families. They weren't chained up. They weren't beaten. They were more like employees. It was more like a corporation.
So it's this weird thing. Without slavery at that time, the Roman republic would not have been able to build the way it did and civilization would not have advanced the way it did. So again, it's that gray area. Was it horrible? Was it wrong? Absolutely. Did it have a positive affect? In the long run of history, yes. So he is going to present a different viewpoint.
I was not expecting that ending.
Spoiler: show
I also tend to agree that Liam is inferior to Andy, but I feel like he's been made less the lead this season as a result, so I'm not troubled by it.
Also, Liam looks like he's in his 20s and Andy was 40 I believe. I think Andy had more of a maturity factor about him which is lacking with Liam. That's the problem in my eyes anyways
I am alone in thinking that Illythia is the hottest actress on TV (Whoever plays her)?
^that's exactly what it is for me too. I do not think of him as terrible, but it's hard correlating the two actors with the same character when they take 'Spartacus' (in my opinion) in two different directions. The show is still amazing, and the supporting cast is phenomenal.
I think the actress that plays Ilithyia is very pretty.. when she's not doing the 'who farted?' face.
I love Mira also and that slave chick that was with Ilythia when she got kidnapped. She has magnificent tits.
absolutely amazing episode, they keep getting better and better
http://www.facebook.com/spartacus.starzThe Gods have blessed us all with news of what is to come in the next season of Spartacus. Julius Caesar and Marcus Crassus – to be played by Todd Lasance and Simon Merrells - will stand opposite Spartacus and the rebel cause! Like this post if you plan to lay eyes on season 3!
saw this posted on the Spartacus facebook page....
Caesar in season 3? Hmm... love the cameo, but Pompey makes WAY more sense (historically)
Wish it was Andy who did the handshake with Onemaos (sp), but in a way I'm starting think it's not so bad that we got a new sparty. The seasons are so different story wise that it almost seems natural to have a new sparty.
God this show just keeps topping itself after every episode.
2 Episodes left really bums me out.
Argh these fucking short-ass seasons drive me nuts. What a great episode tho - I really think Liam finally got a hold of his character in this ep.
So goddamn good, fuck I love this season. It's hilarious that the gratuitous sex scenes have been either really scaled down or hastened much more than before, it's like they realized they actually have a really great plot and are trying to skip to the actual "good stuff". The whorehouse introduction is always like 8 quick pans of "these people are all fucking, you know where you're at now right" and then onto business lol.
re: Andy & Liam: I haven't had any complaints against new-Spartacus at all myself, I think he's been really great. As for the episode, about jumped out of my chair when the 3 step forward in the courtyard, first because of Animaeus and then the surprise change-up.
I wanted Lucretia and Elythia to get fucked up since season 1 but this season just exceeded my expectations. I love seeing them suffer the entire time instead of just getting killed.
The only parts that I felt took away from those moments were that a.) Glaber had already decided to let Illythia die before finding out it's not even his child and b.) that, while being met with the reality of being condemned to death is horrifying, she knew Glaber didn't love her anymore and was more than happy to kill her if not for the child and having a servant of sorts.
Glorious episode.
Episodes like this are why I love Spartacus.
