If by RE1 you mean Gamecube remake then please go on ahead, if original then ugh it didn't age well D;. Also there's no need to play 0 before, you can play it at any time.

yeah im playing the RE Archives version of the remake for Wii, I think you can use whatever controls you want but idk which is best
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was a really great First Person horror game. Could give that a try, I rather enjoyed it.
Could always give the RE: Outbreak series a spin even though it's strictly an offline experience now.
Always felt Outbreak games was more survival horror than the others since you don't get a gun like every 5 minutes and with zombies able to constantly move from area to area, you're forced to use something shitty such as broomstick, lolknife or just run the entire time. Wish Capcom made a Third one :<
And Yes Haunting Ground is amazing, though I could get through the game kicking the shit out of everything it's more fun hiding and running.
I've actually gotten about halfway into this on PC, but I don't remember why I never finished it. Anyone ever play Curse: Eye of Isis on original xbox?
Haha yea, I especially enjoyed killing the last stalker (in his first form) as he crawls around after you lol. It was a pain to kick daniella and riccardo to death 10 times each but the gear you get makes the rest of the game so much easier.
Is Outbreak really that good? I seem to recall watching someone play it a long time ago, and thinking it wasn't that great (and had horrid load times...) but it's possible my tastes/patience has changed since then.
Outbreak isn't for everyone. There are some issues with the game such as bad AI bots, bad loading as you mentioned (unless you have a PS2 HDD then you're good, issue was somewhat alleviated in File #2) and controls that doesn't handle as well (Always find myself running into a zombie for some reason).
If you can get past these issues though it's a great game with thrilling moments on higher difficulties. File #2 being the better game since they fixed and added a few things like moving and shooting. I'd say give one of the games a try and see how you like it. But playing File #2 first will make File#1 feel terrible.
Also fuck Riccardo and his invisibility. The hardest stalker to kick in the game really. Should reattempt the game on Hard mode someday.
Ah okay, I'll give it a go eventually.
I'm a few hours into RE1 (the Wii version of the remake), about to fight the first boss. So far it's been pretty easy going (I'm using a guide, this game is fucking long) and honestly this game seems kinda hard, even on easy. I hate that killing an enemy doesn't mean it stays dead, and these Crimson Head things that pop up when you don't burn zombies are really annoying. I know this game is all about item conservation and management, it just feels like the handgun is way too weak to deal with enemies... and it's the only thing that you get bullets for.
I'm kinda overly worried that I'm saving too much (I've saved like 10 times so far, mostly because I wanted to stop playing after a few hours) but hopefully you get more ribbons as the game progresses. Does the game get easier? Do you get more ammo or easier ways to deal with zombies? I guess I'm enjoying RE1 for the most part but it kinda feels like even the REmake is getting dated at this point.
Soooo, finished up Resident Evil 1 Remake. That was actually pretty fun, although I've only beaten it as Jill so I'm going to have to replay as Chris eventually. Is it true that Chris only gets 6 inventory slots instead of Jill's 8? I actually over-conserved ammo and at the end I had so much left over for the magnum and grenade launcher, it made the boss ridiculously easy. Maybe I should have played a bit more agressively...
Now I've moved on to RE2. It's kinda a jump backwards to go from the nice graphics of the REmake to the ps1 graphics of RE2, but something about RE2 seems a lot more fun so far. Is this game more action-oriented than RE1 in general? I notice you have to kill a lot more zombies, so far I've killed like 2 or 3 groups of 3-4 zombies and I'm not even very far in the game. My only complaints so far are the lack of a designated map button (instead of going through the item menu first) and that it's a lot harder to see ink ribbon pickups on the screen.
It's interesting to play these games after playing RE4 and 5. RE4 is a totally new direction in terms of gameplay but it's neat to see the kind of control/interface hallmarks that survived all the way to present day. I still have no fucking clue what happened in RE1 though, I mean I already kinda knew from reading stuff online but I don't feel like playing RE1 cleared up anything about the series for me lol
Not only does Chris have just 6 slots, he can't lockpick doors so you got to carry one of those little keys for every locked door that doesn't have a designated key. He's also dumber so he can't solve puzzles like Jill can. But he is stronger and Hand Grenades > Taser imo. Character exclusive weapons, scenarios blah blah blah.
RE2 is more action packed compared to RE1 but has nothing on RE3. But 2 has a good mix of puzzle and action sequences where as the other 2 games lean towards the end of either spectrum. I guess that's why many consider RE2 the best of the classic REs.
Does Claire get only 6 slots in RE2 as well? I'm playing as Leon now and following a guide, and it says I should leave the Side Pack in the armory (along with the SMG) for Claire's playthrough.
So far so good on RE2. I just finished the bit where you control Ada, now I'm going through unlocking doors with the Club key. I like this game a lot, but I notice that unlike RE1 the rooms tend to be small and have a lot more zombies in them. I'm just clearing them all out with the handgun but not having the defense items like in REmake is annoying, and I tend to get munched a lot when they get close to me. I know people say that RE2 is the best but I really liked all the puzzles in the REmake, so I am a little torn still.
Just beat RE2 as Leon, it was really good although I really think the game is starting to show its age at this point. I definitely liked the REmake more than this, not even because of the graphics but because of the puzzles and setting. I'll play through again as Claire for scenario B but I was expecting RE2 to be my favorite based on what people have told me, and I guess I'm feeling a little let down.
I'm kinda wondering if I should just play through RE:CVX on ps2 and save myself 20 bucks (I'll still definitely buy RE4 HD just because I love it so much), so I don't accidentally spoil anything when I play through Darkside Chronicles. Thoughts?
RE2 is still my favorite from the classics. Could be do to it being my 1st survival horror an, but I havent played this REmake you speak of.
Also since you liked CT3 and Haunting ground, do you know/recommend any other games like them?
Well, you were late to the party.. what, twenty years? RE:2 is my favourite, followed by DC and 3.
IIRC, you only have to worry about saving items for the next scenario if you're playing on higher difficulties. (Nightmare mode but I think that's Dreamcast and PC version exclusive). Should be fine doing whatever you want in normal cases.
I think you should give CVX a try either on the PS2 or the upcoming HD port. Since Darkside chronicles' CV portion is, for the most part, a retelling (as with all the other scenarios in the game.). It's going to miss on the details and make significant changes to some events. DSC is really meant for the fans who played through the original games giving them new perspectives, fixing and making more plot holes and going through them at an accelerated pace. But that's only if you really give a shit about the story, CVX's gameplay have seen some improvements over it's predecessor nonetheless.
Done with Claire's story in RE2, overall that was pretty good. Now I'm onto RE3, I've been reading up on the whole gunpowder mixing thing and it seems interesting. Anyone got any pointers? Also I take it Leon A -> Claire B is canon for the series in RE2, as (I assume, feel free to correct me) is Jill -> Chris in RE1... What about RE3?
the opening FMV in RE3 is fucking great. Man, Jill got slutty pretty damn quick
Clair > Leon is canon I believe.
RE3 is just Jill.
I actually like RE3.. a lot. The fact that it's set in a big open city, and the addition of stuff like dodge moves and quick turns are really nice.
I decided to play on Easy like i did with the previous 2 games, and it gave me a SHITLOAD of ammo (in REmake/RE2 picking easy just gives you a few first aid sprays) and infinite ribbons, I guess that's because Nemesis takes such a beating if you decide to fight him? I kinda want to play through a 2nd time on Hard just to get all the weapon upgrades he drops in that difficulty. Does RE3 get more puzzles as it goes on, or is it mostly action based? Also I don't understand the whole gunpowder mixing thing... I guess if I make handgun bullets 7 times, it'll let me make enhanced handgun bullets after that?
Playing through these games makes me want to revisit the Dino Crisis series too (well, except 3 lol) but idk how good Dino Crisis 1 & 2 actually are
Dino Crisis 1 is a really nice game similar to RE1-3 and not lacking in puzzles too. Dino Crisis 2 became more of a shooter... instead of evading dinos you shoot them in masses to gather points to buy stuff at the shop.
If you're thinking about going back to older games like that then I'd also recommend checking out Galerians if you never played it before.
ooo I remember Galerians, but I never played it. Good call!
