When Mordo tells Strange that Ancient one is Celtic, was that a subtle reference to Merlin?

No, it was (unofficially) a marketing decision:

the issue was also about removing Tibet from the title character’s origin to avoid offending China, and secure the film’s release there.

...Doctor Strange screenwriter Robert Cargill said on a podcast that project heads (including director Scott Derrickson) pushed to remove the character’s Tibetan roots early on because Chinese audiences would reject a Tibetan character.

So I absolutely loved the resolution of the conflict. It's something most people may see as lame, but it felt very much how strange would resolve a problem in the comics

Wasn't the whole point of his existence and faith rooted in saving the world from Dormammu? Why the hell would he be so asstight about using the Time Gem to save the planet, and then decide to go hurt some innocent bystander afterwards? It felt like such a weird turn for his character.

the bit I liked most about the movie was mordo's character development so lemme try and explain the way I saw it all,

his whole existence and faith was rooted in following the rules so that earth is safe from evil. Avoiding forbidden magic is a part of his faith. Then he finds out that the ancient one was using forbidden magic and THAT is the reason/opportunity for mads mikkelson to become the evil character he's become and wreak so much havoc. So after strange saves the planet by using forbidden magic mordo says again that 'the bill comes to you', just like he did when he learned of ancient one's use of forbidden magic, ie that strange has just caused a cause-effect chain that will punish him/earth for his use of forbidden magic, just like mads mikkelson was the effect of ancient one's using forbidden magic

And so at the end mordo is beginning his crusade against all wizards, who to him cannot help but pervert reality... and thus cause cause-effect chains that end in negative consequences

I realize the last bit is a bit of a leap from forbidden magic -> altering reality but I'm OK with accepting that as his motive and am excited to see him as the next villain

I'm not actually in the know about dr strange cannon so maybe there's a better explanation though btw

So something I've been wondering is why they've been changing the stones around... like Strange is supposed to get soul not time... which kind of fits more his powers to begin with. Think they've done this with most the others too. Which I guess whatever different plots.

But what I'm really curious about is why they are changing the colors. Like green is supposed to be soul and time was supposed to be orange... like are they trying to get those that red the comics to jump the gun and assume or what?

Just to distinguish it from the comics. They change color depending on the universe or writer.

The color scheme for the gems has been out of wack since the beginning. Don't think Marvel has ever really stated why they changed things around like they did.

And in the end it honestly doesn't really matter that much. If you've got a gem, any gem, you're rockin' it pretty hard.

Just watched, great movie. I'd heard the villain was lackluster before going to see it and have to disagree, one of the most relatable villains yet. Almost thought they were gonna pull the trope of him not turning out to be bad.
