This should be the first Marvel film to win an Oscar, in my opinion. I've never seen visual effects like this.

I've only got one criticism of the movie, (besides the underdeveloped villain, but I suppose the sequel will be better in that respect) and that's Burlapsack Crankenshaft's American accent sounds like he grew up on the part of Long Island that's in Texas.

Caught it at the IMAX last night, the 3D and overall visuals were awesome! The whole movie had a flow to it which was great, maybe it was the DayQuil and Martinis but the two of us we're totally immersed.

Cumberbatch nailed it in all ways, I had hopes and was not disappointed.

And agreed about Sherlock, I was excited for him to be Strange just off his demeanor in that show.

One of the better Marvel movies, finally saw it and loved it.

Just came back from this. Solid Marvel movie, not the best but definitely entertaining. If anything I loved the foundation it's building for future movies. I also definitely felt like I missed out not seeing this in imax or 3d.

My one major gripe about the movie.
    Spoiler: show
I fucking can't stand Mordo's character archetype in the post credits. Hate those kind of villains. It's so bland and one dimensional where they only see Good vs Evil.

So.. I uh.. totally missed the post credit scene apparently. I caught the mid one. I figured there would be more but everyone else started getting up and leaving so I figured ok, maybe that was it even though I should know better with Marvel movies. Guess I'll have to try and find it somewhere, or see it again.

If you want a rundown of it (rundown and a question I have about it spoilered)

    Spoiler: show
Mordo tracks down Pangborn, beats him up, steals his powers like Amon in Legend of Korra making Pangborn a paraplegic again, says powers shouldn't be used for selfish reasons (so that's why he took them back), says he's figured out what's wrong with the world; there's too many sorcerers in it.

What I'm curious about is where the hell did they start getting the ability to permanently rip someone's magic from them, and why wasn't this used elsewhere? "Oh btw Strange, if you run into this guy and manage to subdue him, using this trick will make him powerless permanently." But of course that'd make the plot too simple.

I don't think you're being Debbie Downer. For those who know Strange's origin story could easily tell this was pretty word for word retelling. And to be honest, I can't imagine them doing it any other way. Doing a movie where he is an already established Sorcerer Supreme, by throwing in flashbacks of how he got there, would do Strange an injustice.

And it's not JUST the visuals. You have to remember. Strange was always the weird one in the Marvel Universe. Bending reality, altering perception, etc etc. When I saw the movie, I thought that it was not them just bending reality in Mirror Dimension, it was also an ability for one sorcerer to bend the perception of another.

    Spoiler: show
That's why Strange was having hard time running away, not because Kaicelius was actually twisting the house, he was fucking with Strange's mind making him think that's what was happening. There's no other way to show this other than to create mind boggling (pun intended) visuals. Otherwise, can you imagine how it would look to an untrained guy?

I dunno for me the story was anything but bland.

I love RLM but I've started to take their reviews as smuggy lately, even with movies I hated.

Sometimes I feel that way, but I believe they both studied film in college. So I can understand all their nitpicking/smugness. I think everything they do is very intentional.

To be honest, this particular RLM review seems half-assed. It's like they barely paid attention to the movie because they either didn't get or were confused about certain tidbits, Kamar-Taj isn't in Hong Kong, and they keep referencing Star Wars when, correct if I'm wrong, Dr. Strange was created long before that franchise.

Like others have said, RLM just seems to be smuggy lately just for the sake of being smug.

I think this is why I found the story so boring. Aside from the ending, which as I said was clever, this was a paint-by-numbers Marvel movie. Introduce hero, introduce supporting characters, introduce villain, hero defeats villain, have at least 3 action scenes along the way. There's nothing here in terms of story that we haven't seen from Iron Man or Ant Man, etc.

I thought that it was not them just bending reality in Mirror Dimension, it was also an ability for one sorcerer to bend the perception of another.
I'm glad this enhanced your enjoyment, and it would have made the world of Dr. Strange much more interesting, but it's really not supported by the film in any way. In fact, I'd say it's directly refuted by Ancient One telling Strange they use mystic energy to "reshape reality" and by Wong and Mordo being surprised when Strange tells them Kaicelius can alter reality outside of the mirror world.

As for RLM, I think some of you guys just wanted them to confirm your own opinion. While I don't agree with almost anything Mike had to say, when you take his opinion together with Jay's, I think this was a very fair review.

Remember the reason he was not paraplegic was that he was constantly casting a spell on himself. It could be argued that all Mordo did was case a counterspell on him.

ecxept the villain wasnt defeated in a classical statement. Dormamu is still intact and a threat, Strange just forced him into a clever deal. You could tell how overpowering Dorm was and that there was no way of destroying him. In that sense its a very unusual marvel movie ending and felt fresh.

Are you replaying to me? I've already said multiple times that I thought the way Strange went about defeating Dormammu was clever, but Dormammu was very much defeated. He wanted to eat Earth, Strange stopped him. That's getting defeated.

Dormammu isn't the kind of thing you can defeat.
