So wait... I'm supposed to believe that scrolling sideways to select action bar icons and/or macros is somehow superior to direct input on keyboard-only? Or having to put down the controller any time I want to type anything?

It's one thing to prefer a slower control method, but it's quite another to claim that others are mouthbreathers for doing otherwise.

P.S. I hear gamepad turning is much faster than keyboard. Or exactly the same speed. One of those two...

BTW, best part of this thread: gamepad player tells keyboard players, "get with the times, gramps!"

mouse turning in this game = lol

keyboard turning is only crap in XIV if you play in first-person view (for whatever terrible reason)

This thread has now become about keyboard turners defending keyboard turning, and how it makes things harder for them in FFXIV.

I think this thread is now about gamepad players thinking their turning is not EXACTLY EQUAL TO keyboard turning?

Oh, wait, you have the option to turn slower. My bad.

wait. whats wrong with a mouse? shit plays so much better with a mouse than 11 did, the only thing that i haven't got used to yet, is accidentally clicking on myself when i mean to click on an enemy.

Nothing's wrong with the mouse, it's perfectly acceptable like it is with every other game since they fixed the ridiculous software mouse.

Challenge to keyboard turning winners: While running right and spinning your camera left, hit 1->0 in less than 3 seconds with ctrl/alt accessible. To everybody else, that means hold down D and J with something other than your thumbs and go 1-0.

With mouse+kb, having access to ctrl/alt/0/1 while holding D+J requires one of two things:

    1) an NBA-sized left hand
    2) clicking icons on the action bar (which, I have recently been told, never happens and is only for derpers)

But to answer your question, with default setup:

    left index- D
    left middle- 1
    left pinky- ctrl
    right index- J
    right middle- 0
    right thumb- alt

1 through 0, not 1 and 0 lol. Basically, be able to hit every one of your bindings while both moving and spinning your camera. Not an unreasonable feat. With both the other control schemes, the question doesn't even need to be asked. The fact that it's a challenge in and of itself should tell you something.

And I really just realized I'm actually having a conversation about the downsides of keyboard turning. I forfeit, victory is yours.

    OK, now my turn.

With a gamepad, enter the following four actions in under two seconds:

    ALT+1
    CTRL+5
    ALT+6
    CTRL+2

I mean, since we are just making up arbitrary inputs.

I'm still waiting for you to explain how a mouse/kb user is supposed to do that without clicking icons, which you were deriding as the actions of a moron less than two hours ago.

Clicking icons is for idiots, yes or no... which is it? Some consistency, please.

While you are explaining things, please explain how a gamepad user can be moving and spinning camera with both thumbsticks, and still have access to d-pad for menus, face buttons for confirming, and shoulder buttons for macros. All at the same time.

Remember, if that seems like a challenge, it means you were obviously proven wrong.

No, its still nowhere near as good as any other game on the market. Its sluggish and because the characters have a stupid start-up/slow-down animation, it makes mouse controls jerky instead of tight. Yeah, it works, but its nothing like WoW/Rift/AoC/Warhammer/ect.

On top of the fact that combat pace is slow enough to not need some sort of FPS-track-ball-spin-speed turning. Plus, if you're clicking and dragging your cursor to turn your camera around, you're also unable to simultaneously use the mouse to target. Combinations of F1, F8, and Tab are invaluable... until the cursor interface doesn't actually suck.

Well yeah, but that has nothing to do with the mouse functionality. Run in a circle = do a triangle type thing.

It kinda does. Even clicking and dragging doesn't work nearly as well as it does in other games. Go play Rift and move around using the mouse, then come back to XIV. its nearly impossible to get used to once you've moved around in a smoother, more polished game. I get what you're saying, but you're not always right like you think you are.
