Did anyone catch the undertones (not so subtle even) of saying that the rich should not be paying more in taxes, the poor should? Oops, did I say rich? I meant "job creators"

I'd call PBS reasonably solid, so, here's your numbers.

Also, a study provides a clearer explanation on why the midrange income earners give support in favor of the wealthy.

Thing is, that article talks about our "national aversion" to high tax rates on the wealthy, as if it's the "American way" compared to other countries.

When I was born, in my very lifetime - 1980, the top marginal tax rate was 70% - just for federal income taxes. And it was that high or higher for the entirety of my grandparents lives before that.

Slashing tax cuts for the rich is a relatively "new" phenomena - it's definitely not a "this is how it's always been, it's the American way!" thing. It's the remnants of failed Reagan-era trickle-down policy combined with an unprecedented rise in campaign financing by people with a huge stake in keeping tax rates for the rich low.

    True.
But, in the end, it had/has to be done with the "consent" of the electorate, even if by ignorance, misinformation, apathy, or malevolence.

For me, it all comes down to this:

I could give a shit how high the orange line goes, more power to it. But if something is proposed that doesn't help the blue line, then said proposal can fuck right off.

40 years of income stagnation for 90% of Americans is a BAD THING.

and love the line "the top 10% already pay 69% of the income taxes". fucking A, the top 10% also has what, 70% or so of wealth. TOTALLY UNFAIR
Yeah you always see this quote, someone used it in a thread just yesterday, I guess the people throwing that out there don't realize that it's a direct reflection of the acutal problem. If the top 10% is paying 69% of the income taxes what the fuck does that tell you?? Not that they are overburdened... that's for sure. GTFO out of here with that dumbass talking point I say.
