A title with a tenth of the resources on PC won't outshine a console title, sure. Why are we comparing budget indie PC titles with AAA console titles? I'm comparing a cross-platform title on PC with itself on console. And, in my experience, the cross-platform title I'm working on runs best on PC even though we spend an inordinate amount of time optimizing so that consoles can even run it due to memory constraints, load time issues, underpowered processors, difficult hardware etc.

PC is not a lead SKU because of issues with piracy, full stop.

You sure it isn't because PC gamers are a minority?

[EDIT] Relative to the other supported platforms*.

Well, to be clear, it's because PC versions don't sell as many copies.

I suppose you can argue there's a smaller install-base of modern (2007+) PCs which outclass Xbox. But really, I think the problem is that for every PC copy sold you probably have at least 1 copy simply "sampled" in full (and hardly ever paid for). Of course it's also possible to pirate on the consoles but it's significantly harder to do so.

Remove the piracy issue or, alternatively, make piracy on consoles just as prevalent and accepted, and the disadvantages of a console quickly pile up:

    1) much weaker hardware
    2) expensive and difficult certification process
    3) platform owners take a licensing fee on every game sold
    4) expensive and difficult to patch when glitches are found
    5) platform owners control the MP experience (ie, you pay microsoft to run servers)

and probably more I can't think of off the top of my head. Even still, the console versions outsell PC by a wide enough margin to justify making them lead skus.

And thus, AAA titles spend huge amounts of time and money shipping on relatively ancient hardware. Imagine how slick a title could be if that time was spent instead on making technology that pushed the envelope on PC?

Uh, no? I completed it within the first week without any crashes or issues. Before the first patch that made the beginning of the game easymode. I only remember people having issues with securom before they patched that out. Not to mention it probably had a budget one fifth the size of RAGE.

Also, it was in response to this quote from Carmack that you posted:

Nowadays most of the quality of a game comes from the development effort put into it, not the technology it runs on. A game built with a tenth the resources on a platform 10 times as powerful would be an inferior product in almost all cases."

Beat it. Fun game, felt a bit short. ;x

I liked it more than Borderlands, but it wasn't as epic as Fallout. Graphics were amazing though (the art direction was for sure).

Just wondering, did they patch most of the technical issues? I'm really tempted to pick it up since it's so cheap on Steam right now, but I'd rather save my money if it's still a mess.

A new update has arrived for Rage on iOS devices that brings with it melee combat, in-app purchases, and support for HDMI out.

Since the addition of melee combat is self-explanatory, it should be noted that in-app purchasing as been added to the game’s menu, allowing you to purchase new episodes like Krakan and Aqueduct – both bundled together for $0.99 in the marketplace.

Also, the game now supports HDMI out, allowing you to play the game in HD on your television set. Kind of odd, seeing as how that essentially turns your iPhone into a home gaming console…

Regardless, if you have enough storage on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, scoop up the latest update and get to punching mutants to death with your awesome new melee fist of justice.

PEGI, the European classification board, has rated Rage: The Scorchers, which suggests Bethesda and id Software plan to release DLC for their 2011 first person shooter.

The listing was filed as recently as a week ago, suggesting that it's unlikely PEGI rated it before the content was removed from the game's final production.

Given that the word Rage' appears, the Scorchers are referenced (a clan originally cut from the game) and that Bethesda / Zenimax have submitted the title to PEGI, it's pretty clear that this is Rage DLC, even though it hasn't been "officially" announced.

Rage mod tools are coming soon, id Software's John Carmack has said.

They were supposed to ship alongside the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter in October 2011 - a year ago - but failed to materialise.

According to Carmack, id's work on Doom 3: BFG Edition shoved Rage mod tools to the side, but now all that's done with, they will be released.

In a tweet the id co-founder expressed his frustration at the delay, and admitting to making mistakes on the issue.

"BFG work pushed the Rage tools, but Real Soon Now. I hope. Sigh. I think we have made poor decisions on this all year," Carmack said.

Seems weird to release DLC a full year after the game is done, unless they intend to possibly make this a stand-alone affair.

At any rate, on the subject of the actual game, I been playing it on and off after having obtained a copy a couple months ago for PS3. It's enjoyable for me in small bursts since it's a fairly low-focus shooter. Only thing I worry about is the strain on my hard drive since it's constantly reading from it due to the nature of the megatexture system.

A clan that was originally cut from the full version of Rage, it looks like the Scorchers will be getting a new lease of life with an upcoming DLC, which has been exposed thanks to the posting of the add-on's trophy list right here on PS3Trophies.

What's more, it looks like the DLC will be something rather substantial, as there'll be ten new trophies added, with one awarded when you "finish the campaign on Ultra Nightmare difficulty". The DLC includes an entirely new Scorchers job path to pursue, as well as some new mini-games to play.

Take a look at the trophy list below:
    • Night Terrors - Finish the Campaign on Ultra Nightmare difficulty
    • Cavernous Stumble - Complete Hagar Caves in The Scorchers job path
    • Plans Refined - Complete Refinery in The Scorchers job path
    • Thrash Canyon - Complete Bash Canyon in The Scorchers job path
    • Fired Up! - Complete Scorcher Base in the The Scorchers job path
    • Lucky Charms - Bet and win on Green in the Roly-Poly minigame
    • Foursome - Win with a Four of a Kind in the Video Poker minigame
    • Wall Hack - Kill 2 enemies with one Railgun Slug shot through a wall
    • Rebar Pie - Pin an enemy to a surface with a Rebar ammo shot
    • Rite of Passage - Complete Wellspring Tunnels in The Scorchers job path

Having yet to be officially announced, Rage's 'The Scorchers' DLC isn't dated or priced at time of writing. Expect some kind of a formal announcement soon.

    Spoiler: show

Return to the Wasteland in The Scorchers, an all-new RAGE add-on from id Software – arriving on 360, PC, and PS3 next week for $4.99 or 400 Microsoft Points.

In this brand-new adventure spanning six all-new areas, you will fight alongside new allies to defend the Hager Settlment from a maniacal bandit clan known as The Scorchers. Along the way, you’ll participate in a new season of Mutant Bash TV, encounter new mini-games, and wield the overpowering and brutal Nailgun.
