Yeah agreed on Vulture as well. Him and Electro both are two guys that just have nothing interesting enough about their characters to carry the role of lead villain in a movie. They are both just common crooks, one just happened to get electrocuted to get powers and the other is just old with wings. I can see casting them in bit roles but in a major starring role? Can't see it.

News hit the net that Jamie Foxx was up for the role of the villain Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Director Marc Webb was asked about this rumor at a press event for the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD, but he didn't confirm or deny it. He just kind of teased it saying,

"I think Jamie Foxx is electrifying!" Webb laughed "I think Jamie Foxx is one of the best actors around today. He's such a great character actor and he's a really brilliant guy. I would love to work with him and you'll be hearing more on that shortly, I'm sure."
Comingsoon also reports that the director was then asked what other Spider-Man characters Webb liked, to which he responded,

"I like Electro," Webb smiled. "I'm fascinated by Norman Osborn and the different inflections of him. And Harry. Mary Jane and Gwen are always interesting to me."
As we've reported in the past, Shailene Woodley will be playing the role of Mary Jane Watson over the course of the next two films. There have also been reports that they are looking for someone to take on the role of Harry Osborne. Webb goes on to talk about the villains and how they are supposed to affect Peter Parker,

"What makes villains interesting to me is what they bring out in Peter. What challenges they provide for him. What's great about Marvel and other comics is that often there's a pre-existing relationship... It's not just about the physical conflict he has, but the emotional ones as well."
Finally, the director talks about moving forward with the sequel and what excites him about making it,

"What's exciting about moving forward is that, in the first movie, I had to still honor some of the important elements of the origin story. But I also wanted to redefine the context of it because I'm building a different universe than what we've seen before. A lot of the nuance is quite different. Now, as we're approaching the sequel, it's really exciting because I feel quite liberated. I have a universe that's my own. I don't have an obligation to the origin story. It's pretty fun and exciting and I can dig deeper into the parents."

As long as Stone continues to wear them mini skirts, any villain is fine with me.

A few days ago we learned that Brady Corbet (Melancholia), Dane DeHaan (Chronicle), and Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures) were up for the part of Harry Osborn in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Today we've learned four more young actors have been added to the list.

According to THR the the other four actors include Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Snow White and the Huntsman), Eddie Redmayne, (My Week With Marilyn and Les Miserables), Douglas Booth, (LOL and Noah) and Boyd Holbrook (The Big C, Hatfields & McCoys, and The Host).

At first we heard that the studio was looking for someone dark and edgy, but now apparently the producers and filmmakers are now looking actors with athleticism and good looks. Apparently they can't make up their minds. Who ever is cast in the movie will join Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley, and maybe Jamie Foxx. Out of these choices I'd still like to Dehaan cast in the role. My second choice would be Redmayne.

James Franco played Harry Osborn in Sam Raimi's films, and he was great. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to be released on May 2nd, 2014

The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb has officially announced that Chronicle star Dane Dehaan is officially set to play Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This is the guy I was hoping would get the part, so it's awesome to see that he landed it! This character was previously played by James Franco in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films.

It was previously reported that this time around they were looking for actors that fit a dark and edgy description, and DeHaan easily fits that. I thought he was great in Chronicle, and I'm sure he'll be awesome in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He'll be able to pull off a likeable villain. It will be fun seeing him act alongside Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the film. I hate when good guys go bad, but as you know that's exactly what's going to happen with Harry Osborn.

"Marc Webb and all those guys who are doing it are smart," Foxx says. "They know that it has to make sense in 2013 so the suit is really slick. It's not green. It's actually black."

Foxx goes on to explain a bit about the origins of his Max Dillon [although he appears to accidentally call the character "Matt Dillon" as you can see in the video below].

"What you'll see is that, for his whole life, no one is talking to him," Foxx continues. "People have stolen his ideas at the big company. He's a nobody. At a certain point, Spider-Man bumps into him and says, 'You're my guy. You're my ears and eyes on the street.' Then he says his name, [Max] and no one has ever said [Max] Dillon's name. He goes, 'Wow' and, when Spider-Man leaves, he sort of thinks that, "I am Spider-Man's partner!" He's cutting out Spider-Man's face and pasting it on all his boards... Everything goes bad with his mom. She doesn't remember his birthday. He has something tragic happen and, when it turns on, he lights it up."
I'm actually looking forward to this more now. The series is really pushing the whole "tragic villain" angle, but with Foxx's acting, I know we'll really feel for Electro in this one. Gonna be a pretty emotional movie from what I've read so far.

Paul Giamatti is in talks to join The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to play the villain known as The Rhino while Felicity Jones also is negotiating for an unspecified role.

The duo will bolster an already impressive cast. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are back as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, Jamie Foxx is portraying bad guy Electro, Shailene Woodley is Mary Jane Watson and Dane DeHaan is Harry Osborne.
The Rhino first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #41 in 1966 as a thug from a Soviet Block country who wore a superhuman suit that made him invulnerable while giving him super-strength and super-speed. It also had a deadly horn on top.
In more recent comics, he became a sympathetic figure who found himself allying with Spider-Man.
The character that Jones would play has not been revealed.
The role is a dream part for Giamatti, who in the past has said the Rhino was one of his favorite characters when he was a boy.
“I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid,” he told ShowbizSpy in March 2011. “It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me...If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”
Around the same time he was also on Late Night with Conan O’Brien where he talked about the character: “The Rhino was fantastic. He was, like, a Russian guy. He was real fast and he hit stuff real hard.
The sequel, being directed by Marc Webb, is eyeing a February production start.
Giamatti last appeared in Rock of Ages and is currently shooting the JFK drama Parkland with Zac Efron and Jacki Weaver. He is repped by UTA, Kipperman Management and Sloane Offer.
British actress Jones may be best known for starring in Sundance darling Like Crazy and also appeared in Hysteria, the period romantic comedy about the invention of the first vibrator. She is repped by WME and Jodi Peikoff Law.
