Uh, if it's got anything to do with rdm melee I wouldn't know, I stay far, FAR, FAAAAAAAR away from those threads. Fear of head exploding which would be very messy etc etc.

could be read some other way than "having a relic pretty much means I assume you're a waste of oxygen" because I really want to know

(making an Aegis in Final Fantasy XI is like driving across three state lines and paying $200 for a bottle of Everclear for your shitty party that nobody wants to go to anyway)

For the record, even though I'd admit that accruing 300-odd posts in a video game forum makes me an idiot almost by default, I'd rather not be confused with some other kind of idiot so I have to mention I don't think I've ever really commented on RDM melee one way or another.

I mean, I think it's a little dumb (BLU, after all, exists, if you're that het up about being a SWORD WIZARD), but I'm not sure there's very much if anything in this game difficult enough for melee RDMs to be flat out incapable of killing, so I understand where the delusion that it's viable comes from.

True, but it's an open question over which is a bigger waste of time: trying to make RDM melee viable, or fighting a VWNM more than once. If your reason for considering RDM melee futile is that it isn't very good for farming Voidwatch, forgive me if I choose not to join you in the glass house from which you're throwing stones.

Have you considered that the RDM melee proponents (the smarter ones, anyhow) might be perfectly aware it's junk for HNM-style fights like VW and simply not care, because the baggage that's always accompanied that style of content in one way or another means it can safely be ignored? In this sense, they might actually be smarter than the people (like me, I admit) who reroll to FotM jobs they may or may not enjoy and/or grind out the best gear so that they, too, may earn a seat at the roulette table?
