Updates:

David Cameron finally gave an address on the matter. Parliament recalled (means vacation's over), 16,000 more police on the streets promised today.

* Three people are being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was injured by a car in Wembley, north-west London, while trying to stop suspected looters
* Part of London's Tramlink between has been suspended as a result of a fire
* Elsewhere, 138 people have been arrested in Birmingham after scores of youths smashed windows and looted shops in the shopping area
* West Midlands Police said a police station in Holyhead Road in Handsworth, Birmingham, was set alight
* Up to 200 youths with masks roamed through Toxteth in Liverpool, while Bristol police said they dealt with outbreaks of disorder involving about 150 people
* A Nottinghamshire police station was attacked in the St Ann's area and 200 tyres were set alight in the street
* Police dealt with "small pockets of disorder" in the Chapeltown area of Leeds

They smoke like hell as well and are harder to extinguish than wood (if you get a nice pile of them going it's pretty much impossible without fire brigade's equipment- garden hoses and household extinguishers won't do it) and they become soft and sticky when burning so they act both as road blocks and smoke provides cover. Oh and the smoke is pretty toxic so cops and any normal people would avoid the area if they can leaving the idgaf-thugs and vandals to roam free. Plus I'd wager in today's cities- especially brick-built ones like London- they're easier to come by than firewood.
Shit I still remember from going to fire brigade youth club as a kid...

Liverpoool rioting was within ten minutes walk of my workplace, some burned out cars and looted shops, nothing on the scale of london, but I wouldn't put it past the gangs here taking it as a challenge to outdo the londoners. everyone knows no one can out-steal a scouser.

No mention of the trouble up and down the rest of the UK? Scumbags here in Liverpool set cars on fire, looted shops and threw projectiles at police for about 5 hours last night. Not quite as bad as what went on in London, but still fucking scary for anyone nearby. I wouldn't even call them rioters, they're just fucking dickhead scallies who jumped on the bandwagon to cause mayhem and loot the shit... out of their own city. Twats.
