I guess its just a total difference in culture that has me so baffled. You fuck with police in America and you get face rolled but if you fuck with police in the UK you get... free shit and a giant party where you get to destroy anything you want?

You act like this shit happens all the time. Yes, this situation sucks, but once it's under control measures will be taken to try and prevent it happening again. I'd rather that than have a situation like the one in America where police brutality is so bad that many departments are actively trying to get legislation passed making the filming of officers by civilians illegal. You're more than welcome to your culture where defenceless people are beaten and tasered to death by police, like that one insane homeless guy in California who ended up looking like this (NSFL):

Yes, I agree the police need to be tougher on these rioters, but you have to use force responsibly.

I agree that in this case force is needed (and it has been given... late) but shooting first and seeing the damage after is, I guess, too american for our government. Sure, a few might retaliate but I feel that once the feeling within the mob shifts from "destroy, destroy, destroy!" to "oh shit, we could get seriously hurt or die out here" that most people are going to pussy out and cease.

I do get that once the orders are given to use gas and rubber bullets that things are going to look terrible. Not exactly what a politician wants to claim responsibility for.

How would innocent people get hurt? It's not the first day of the riot, most people that are innocent are locked up at home by now.

The best news ive heard all night is that civilians are taking to the streets and protecting their communities.

10.24pm: Groups of men have taken to the streets in south London "to protect their communities", reports the Guardian's Matt Taylor.

Around 200 people are still out in the centre of Eltham in south east London, following rumours that the are was going to be the latest place to be hit by disturbances.

The group, predominantly men, had been congregating in pubs since the rumours began to circulate in mid afternoon.

"This is a white working class area and we are here to protect our community," said one man.

"We are here to help the police. My mum is terrified after what she saw on the television in the last three days and we decided that it's not going to happen here."

The message is perfectly clear. He's not lying, and I don't think him being honest hurts what he's trying to say in any way. I wouldn't be surprised if whites are sick of blacks in Europe; they're sick of blacks everywhere else in the world where they congregate. It goes deeper than people simply disliking poor, racaus people that inhabit ghettos. There is absolutely an element of "this race isn't my race, and this race acts this way from what I can see, so I'm sick of this race". I'm pretty sure that's the message he was interjecting, because he's working class, not some rich white elite. Poor whites still hate poor blacks. Rich whites still hate rich blacks. Poor whites still hate rich blacks. Rich whites still hate poor blacks.

This is the worst thing. I mean yeah its great that people want to protect their stuff. But if a situation gets out of hand you're going to have regular citizens fighting rioters. What do you do when someone trying to protect their property is hurt or killed by rioters?

This whole situation is really sad for everyone involved and I just hope it gets resolved before things get more out of hand then they already are.
