The people rioting have no money to be fined, they are the type of people who in 2 weeks time will be lining up outside goverment buildings to get free money handed too them, the same people are probably living in council houses and receiving benefits for their 9 kids they have had from 8 different women, but they think its cool to riot because "no one gives a shit and they have a hard time".

Most are getting 4months to 2 years for the obvious charges. The Sun newspaper's front page today was: "Lifeguard, Postman, Hairdresser, Millionaire's Daughter, Chef and Schoolboy(11)" - these people have already been sentenced to 4-12 months in prison. Most of them stole about £300 worth of shit, now they will be earning no money for 4-12 months which is normally £20,000 on a full-time wage per year, lol.

shit sucks, what they should really do is instead of taking their homes and welfare checks away is give them mandatory monthly drug tests and both male and female birth control help weed out the people that actually deserve our help as taxpayers. if your ass fails to show up for a BC needle then you don't get your welfare. if you test positive for drugs same result.

welfare is a necessary evil unfortunately with the amount of people that don't have work it just needs stop being a blank check to losers and lazy assholes that continue to breed and raising the next generation of bums.

Just as I expected; most people rioting are people that do have money (as seen by their blackberries and iPhones) but just want more. I'd bet very few ACTUALLY poor people attended the rioting (and those were probably the black )

I have so little money I'll buy a $20 bat and take my motorcycle down to the shopping mall to rob them. I know that's where I'm going because my friends told me so on my newest generation iPhone. Then I'll burn down a random house because they have money and I don't.

Mr Speaker, everyone watching these horrific actions will be stuck by how they were organised via social media. Free flow of information can be used for good. But it can also be used for ill. And when people are using social media for violence we need to stop them. So we are working with the Police, the intelligence services and industry to look at whether it would be right to stop people communicating via these websites and services when we know they are plotting violence, disorder and criminality. I hope, for their sake, it doesn't, because this riot is nothing compared to what will happen if you take welfare away from those people.
Which brings it back to - what exactly do you do? Imprison them for a while, then release them back to the conditions they rioted over in the first place? Reward them with more benefits? Take away their benefits and incite more rioting?

I think they should avoid ex post facto laws and just implement it going foward. Use the same social media used to organize riots to spread the word about the new law. Anyone caught rioting/looting will lose benefits, checks, jobs, etc. Doesn't really help what HAS happened but doing nothing will result in the same thing except people will continue to do it without consequence. All these pictures and video need to be put to use going forward. Looters/rioters need to be prosecuted.

But its as I said before: people are always ballsier in a large crowd, but at the same time, people are always less likely to help someone else when they're also in a large crowd.
