Nope, none of the story lines really intertwine except Georg being in both Suikoden 5 & 2 and some cameo characters.
If I was going for bare minimum I'd play at least 2 and 5. 1 is great too but some lack of gameplay elements (inventory and rune slots) make it a little more of a chore.
Each game takes place in a different country, and different time. Based on time between games and proximity of countries, some characters appear in multiple games. That's about it, though.
For reference, it's something along the lines of
Suiko4 --135years--> Suiko5 --15years--> Suiko1 --3years--> Suiko2 --15years--> Suiko3
Could wiggle Tactics in after 4. Decent game in its own right, though not exactly the best of plots.
Sonya looks like a guy
edit: because it's not sonya. lolz
edit2: but apparently it's still a chick
So the ds game is terrible right?

lol
The DS game wasn't that bad, I just didn't like the whole "alternate dimension" nonsense they went with.
I tried the DS game, but couldn't sink my teeth into it, sadly. Suikoden is about the universe, why the hell did they put it in an alternate dimension? Fuck that.
While disconnected, it did still show us a new part of the world. :D
It's so awesome finally seeing the places that are mentioned in previous games.
Now I'm getting the replay itch. x.x
I need to finish up 2 and go through 3+ as soon as I can catch a break from all this school work.![]()
