Mathew 21;18 Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.

Luke 14;25 Now [m]large crowds were going along with Him; and He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to Me, and does not [n]hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. 27 Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

These are all passages taken out of context so that you can point and laugh at believers. Luke 19:26 was a noble man talking of his subjects that did not do what he thought was right. He's ranting and he's angry.

Mathew 21:18 is a parable about faith. His disciples ask how he did that and he tells them it was done with the faith that he could do it so he did it.

Luke 14:25 draws a comparison between conviction to follow Jesus and desire to stay with loved ones. He is saying that if they are not willing to leave their families and take up the burden of the cross, he does not want them to be disciples.

Really guys, no matter what the book or the religious belief, it's not that hard to read and understand the context so you can understand the meaning. Picking and choosing individual passages as if it is a scientific book and ridiculing based on those passages just makes you look ignorant. The bible, book of Mormon, Koran, or any other religious guide book are not infallible in that they are written and translated by man. The key is in the guidance that these books provide to those that choose to believe.

In other words, don't make fun of religions that you don't understand and let people believe what they want.
Thanks for the effort, but most members of BG will believe what fits their lifestyle the best. They think all I do is troll when I tell them my personal beliefs. Little do they know, it doesn't matter what I believe, or what they believe. The fact still remains that God does exists and every knee will buckle when Jesus returns.

And Christians don't? No, they follow the bible to the T and don't adjust their beliefs to whatever befits their own lifestyle.

Note to self: stories that contain religion you think are simply funny little tidbits worthy of a bit of laughter on BG will always turn into nasty religious debates!

I've been here for years, really ought to have remembered that one.

Those were the good ole days of really heated debates. Same thing with political threads when Leif was around, or was it Lief?

Oh I agree, I can only say that I try to follow it to the T. Fact still remains though, follow it right or not, doesn't change what right is.

There's no such thing as a religion debate. Only religion arguments. It's nigh-impossible to change an adult's fundamental worldview; they have to do it themselves. Human nature, etc.

Debates on religion usually end up going no where consider the vast majority of religion is based on faith, those that really completely believe in it are probably not going to be swayed much otherwise. Regardless this man is obviously just trying to find a excuse for his actions which does not justify the fact of what he actually did.

To me this has less to do with the excuse itself the general statement that the guy is an abusive man trying to justify that he has a right to be.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

there are tons of verses that say you need to obey the law of the land or "king". So either way, this guy is nuts and doesn't understand the bible at all.

[edit] in fact I read (like 15 years ago) that some judges will even quote those passages whenever they get a nut like this, just to kinda stick it to them that "that defense won't fly at all".

Not sure if that's like not appropriate for judges to do anymore though.

    For example fyi:

Romans 13:1-3 “Be a good citizen. All governments are under God. Insofar as there is peace and order, it’s God’s order. So live responsibly as a citizen. If you’re irresponsible to the state, then you’re irresponsible with God, and God will hold you responsible. Duly constituted authorities are only a threat if you’re trying to get by with something. Decent citizens should have nothing to fear.”

1 Peter 2:13 "Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, 14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. "

Ezra 7:26 "And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment."

    And so on.

How does the context of being angry make it ok to demand the lives of people disagreeing with you?

And lol at Jesus killing trees just because he can.

The context on those make shit seem just as crazy as when they are out of context.

Even Jesus' mom thought he was crazy. She tried to call him on it, and he ignored her, like "bitch, get out my face". Jesus was pretty much a dick to his mom.

Why'd you get rid of the first video? It actually shows how religions pick and choose which things to believe.

    Oh and this.
