I know anonymous doesn't control itself, BUT is this really an anon thing or just some random douche trying to freak people out?


Reason I ask is that iirc Anon helped send people in Egypt documents during the riots, which were all organized through facebook. A lot of what they sent was spread to people via facebook so...this just seems off.

Anonymous isn't one single unified group. Anonymous is many different groups/individuals, most of whom have absolutely nothing to do with the others. The only requirement to be part of anonymous is to call yourself anonymous. Just because anonymous #547395 thinks x does not mean any other member of anonymous does too. If they say they are anonymous, then they are anonymous.

I don't have a Facebook because my profession bans me from using social media but even then this shit sounds petty. Do they honestly expect to accomplish anything other then enticing law enforcement to track them down to arrest?

It's a nightmare trying to get hubby to call someone though, he just wants to text and wait (I have no patience for that).

Facebook isn't that bad as it seems though. I've gotten in touch with a lot of people I'd probably never talk to otherwise.

Good example is my Egyptian cousins. They can't speak English well so talking on the phone with them is hard (and expensive). So I get to talk to them now through facebook and it's a lot less stressful for them that way. (can take the time to type their responses).

I will say though sometimes people spend wayyyyy too much time on there.

I also can't believe the amount of relationship fights I've seen on there. HOLY CRAP KEEP THAT SHIT OFF THE INTERNET.

You mean text isn't the same as talking? Language is language, whether it is in oral or written form. There's a term for people like you - luddite. All you are doing is alienating yourself from society. Would you like to know where that "large portion of humanity" has "disappeared" to? Facebook. It cost time and money (albeit, not much money, but 2-3 days to receive a letter is significant time) to send letters, when texting/email is instantaneous. Sure, I have had my pin-pals, but it is for little more than novelty.

All of which have different ideologies, goals, etc, etc. The only common characteristic between all members of anonymous is that they choose to call themselves anonymous. Other than that, any two members (member, meaning anyone that chooses to call themselves or their group anonymous) of anonymous may not have anything at all in common.

Yes, by the definition of "anonymous" that is the correct assumption. But this is not the case anymore because they've done enough high-profile attacks, as to be recognized as a "unified" group. When it started out then it could very well have been different people all using the same logo, but by using the logo they've united into a Noun called "anonymous" as opposed to the Adjective "anonymous". It is very important to recognize this difference.

By your logic I could say I'm having a tea-party rally next week and then be upset when I get a bunch of misinformed rednecks complaining about government, instead of people who like tea and crumpets. Just because the organization was aptly named doesn't mean that group stays true to the definition of that name.
