You mean text isn't the same as talking? Language is language, whether it is in oral or written form. There's a term for people like you - luddite. All you are doing is alienating yourself from society. Would you like to know where that "large portion of humanity" has "disappeared" to? Facebook. It cost time and money (albeit, not much money, but 2-3 days to receive a letter is significant time) to send letters, when texting/email is instantaneous. Sure, I have had my pin-pals, but it is for little more than novelty.

Sure, the language is the same whether speaking or writing, but I think the bigger problem is that people are just making noise for the sake of noise. Do others really care about 90% of what is posted online on facebook or twitter, or whatever else is out there? I've heard parts of people on their phones (while ignoring the person they are standing face to face with), and it is always some trivial piece of shit. It pisses me off that while technology for "communication" grows, there is less and less for anybody to say. Nothing is filtered, it is just inane chatter. With the time that a letter would take to get to the person, you made sure it was something important. As a kid, I loved getting a letter from my grandparents, it was special. Now, when you can send information while sitting on the shitter, I think it loses some of its charm.

I guess you could call me a luddite too. I signed up for facebook so my family would get off my back about it, but I think I log on every 6+ months. I don't own a cel phone, since I personally don't see a need for it. I'm guess I'm stubborn and old-fashioned, but I want to believe in a world where communication is important, not just a convenience for somebody to feel important. South Park did a great job of expressing my views on this whole situation.

How do people not have a facebook or other social thing? Especially on an ff/wow forum? Only reason i even got facebook and msn originally was so that my phone bill would stop exploding calling people in finland/australia/UK every day for HNMs, and if i didn't already have it for that reason i have had 3 classes so far in college that require you have a facebook so that you can work in groups with others.



And really i am sure that you are aware that there are only idiots on your fb if you are friends with them/add them, so that's on you for being friends with retards.

I agree that you can get info way more easily from sources like internet/newspaper radio, and i was really just commenting on how socially aware kuno was. As for keeping in contact with friends and family i find it to be infinitely easier to do through facebook as opposed to email or phonecalls. But that might just be me not wanting to call europe just to say hey and shoot the shit for a few min.

But whatever facebook is nice to organize stuff and keep in contact with people i don't particularly want to have long conversations with and thats about it you aren't really missing anything, its just shocking to me that people avoid a free website that has no actual downsides and maybe a plus here or there.

I get most of my news from here, Twitter or Facebook. 24 hour news stations suck imo. Much faster and easier to just see what's trending and boom your news for the day. With CNN, MSNBC, Fox, you have to deal with all the fluff and the crazy hosts to get to the important details and events.

regardless of whether this is "actual anonymous" or if what they have planned will work at all, they're actually right about facebook. the privacy policy is terrible, and they are indeed tricking millions of users who don't know any better into giving their information for free. they also have creepy photo ID software and keep all of the information from it (to "suggest tags").

internet security, freedom of information, privacy, these aren't just "first world problems"... very strange reaction you guys are having. i'm guessing it's some sort of bizarre libertarian thing, like "it's a free site, they should be able to do whatever they want!" or something?
