I will once again reiterate that government is a societal construct.

Government needs money to run. If the government does not have money, then it does not work. Therefore, government taxes society (because we agree that it can) so it can run (for us).

When people say "redistribution of wealth", they have this image of rich people paying taxes, and the government gives a check to poor people for that same amount, like the government is Robin Hood. This is not how government works, including the very evil welfare that everyone seems to demagogue. In reality, "redistribution of wealth" means "I don't want to pay taxes because I hate government and want to live without the social contract."
