Give me a while to get used to it and we'll see what happens.

Anyway I finally found a way to stop Firefox from destroying my custom searches. I have some game/FFXI related searches added with Add To Search Bar. Every time there's a update, it has been wiping them and I have to readd them. If ya have this problem: Go to tools ==>Advanced and click the Update tab. There's a option to automatically update search engines, make sure that box is NOT checked.

According to the addon's site this will stop it. I did it, let's see next update if I get to keep the custom ones..

Vertical space is already a premium for browsing on most devices, so what do they do? Make the fucking title bar on the window vertically taller on OSX. Granted I always preferred tabs-on-bottom for OSX since it works better with the look of the OS.

At any rate, shit seems the same? Besides rounding off the tabs (useless), and turning the right-click->customize into its own button for people who probably haven't figured that out yet.

Went hunting (I mean to give this a chance before I tinker..) but it's possible to change it back, skin wise. Use Classic Theme Restorer.

Source: Here with directions. Hope that helps. If I get annoyed enough I may do that.

They better not force that tabs-on-top horseshit.

Giving it a whirl, it's all about the same aside from tab restyling and the menu is on the right instead of the left.

Well, that and the menu redesign. Probably the thing that'll throw me off the most.

Ohhh, this is really good. After a bit of tweaking i've got it looking nearly identical to how it used to.

Made the mistake of updating to v29 yesterday a few minutes before shutdown, and it led to a lot of cursing... <.<
Since status4eva seems to be a bit slow with adapting i switched to The Addon bar (restored), works like a charm.
Who the f*** thought it would be a good idea to clutter the address bar with the addon toggles?
They already tried to get rid of the addon bar back when they moved to v5, and it pissed people off... So why not piss them off again? -.-

€dit: went back to the brand new version of S4E, TAb(r) was missing one essential thing: showing the url behind a link on mouse-over...

After some minor initial rage, I've now settled thanks to the customise button. Moved the URL bar/back button to the left, and the google/search bar to the right, stuffed everything else in the middle and it's now business as usual. The only thing getting me is the bookmarks menu button (toolbar one) as it's slightly not in the position as it was before but I think I'll live.

Sounds like they are working with Chrome in a makeshift effort to force chrome down everyone's throat, with the similar UI and all.

One thing that still annoys me is that reload isn't a movable button but locked in position with the address bar... Used to have it right next to forward/back, on the left of the address, and now every time I want to refresh, mouse wanders left, and then "oh, right, it moved"...
And nevermind about S4E, Classic theme restorer lets you customize/move almost every button (I'm looking at you, bookmark button...) including refresh, brings the addon bar back and has some other nice features for tabs and restoring the FF button top left.

Feels like I'm using a chrome skin, if I wanted to use chrome I'd be using chrome. Idk, fucking FF has been acting up lately. Like it crashes all the fucking time (some flash plug in, I tried to find a solution but w/e, fuck it). The bizarre thing is that ie is working A OK lol... Idk, I think this is the one that broke my back tbqh.

Nothing being customizable with the address bar is starting to get on my nerves. The lack of separator/flexers from the old UI is annoying, but there are add-ons to recovery those, and I would assume Mozilla isn't done feature-wise with this UI anyhow.

I haven't had to use an add-on to 'fix' my dislikes with general browser usability in years though. That was more of a Firefox 2-era thing for me.

I still regret the day I upgraded from 3.5. 80% of the things they've done since then to the UI have been downgrades. Having to use add-ons to restore former built in functionality is fucking retarded.

This is a computer, not a tablet. Stop designing the UI like vertical space is a commodity. I have 1200 lines of vertical space if I need them. And I don't need them, the only time my web browers take up more than 70% of my vertical space is somebody embedded a really big picture.

I've always been on the side of Firefox. I've never understood this Chrome rave. I do use all 3 (at work) not IE (at home) and over the years I can sum up this:

    IE8 - work apps
Firefox - pre 20x whatever update, it was possible to prevent images from loading. Post 25 whatever, that option got removed, but whatever I had it on before still applies. This was excellent for work as I could browse almost any site and not fear people will look at my screen and get offended over pretty much anything.
Chrome - I found this useful for browsing company sites and any other legitimate site that I may use for work purposes, At home, I rarely use Chrome personally.

Now, Firefox for me had memory leak issues randomly on Windows XP, but post 26-27 update I think, it seemed to have gone away. And then I moved to Windows 7, this has been a none issue for me (average 200mb memory usage across 30 tabs)
Chrome, however, seems to spawn extra processes per tab/function/addon/service. Sometimes they're cool, under 10mb, sometimes, they're evil, going up as much as 50-100mb (excluding the "mother chrome" process currently at 150mb for me). Altogether, at this moment in time (posting on firefox) I have 13 tabs opened + Google Hangouts (1 chat session), and I have 18 Chrome Processes totalling over 600mb memory usage). My firefox in comparison is at 325mb with significantly more tabs.

I have no idea how it all works, but I can sum up the following from my experience:

Have a shit PC/laptop? Use Firefox (extra processes in Chrome will actually bog your machine down a lot more than Firefox, excluding its memory leak issues which i've not seen myself lately)
Have a kick ass PC/laptop? Use Chrome (extra processes are invisible and your machine will handle them like gravy - alternatively, use pretty much any other browser you like)

Of course, mileage may vary depending on users and what addons they like running on their browsers.

And not being sure how IE works, but it seems to have gone the Chrome way of spawning extra processes per TAB even and is just as worst memory wise.

200MB with 30+ tabs? Sounds like a dream to me... Usually have about 30-40 tabs open, and right on start of FF (with session restore), memory usage already jumps up to about 400MB. And I know exactly when usage goes over 1GB, cause scrolling gets a bit choppy and youtube videos begin to stutter...

I hear ya... Been using FF since version 2.something, and over the years more and more add-ons were necessary to "restore" features that I learned to love and used a lot. With Australis it's 2 (maybe 3):
Add bookmark here ² (who came up with this unsorted bookmarks crap anyway? I want to sort them right on creation, not later... <.<)
Classic Theme restorer (can bring back most of the stuff they changed/removed with Australis)
Tab mix plus (no idea if i got it because they changed something or if I wanted to change it, but whatever... some of the options overlap with CTR, but they don't disturb each other)

Hm when I restore session, I noticed the older (tabs on the left) tabs don't reload until I actually click on it. This is because in Options (tabs tab) I have "don't load tabs until selected"

This causes the tabs to be in effect blank pages, or bookmarks, until I click on them. Do you have that set? I'm sure it's not to everyone's taste as it means a few seconds for the page to refresh as you click on it, but that might explain your memory surge as you restore?
