If NPH gave me the eyes, I'd give gay a shot.
That being said, thinking that Bert and Ernie are gay because they teach kids about tolerance is ridiculous. Let them be.

While I agree the whole thing is a bit silly, saying "why are people worrying about this and not other shit" just doesn't feel like that valid of an argument. I highly doubt that there are many folks slaving over it and reading hours & hours of articles and literature on the subject of puppetfags. I'm pretty sure that most of us have the ability to, you know, follow more than one thing at a time.
Best friends != gay

Oh I'm sorry, I thought Kermit being on both shows made them related. HUR DUR MY B.
Not that I care, they're not raping my childhood since I didn't watch either.
Wikipedia knows everything.Kermit was one of the original Muppet characters on Sesame Street. Though he was intended to be removed from the cast after the first season, he returned as a full-time character in the third, and remained a regular character for many years. Closely identified with the show, he often appeared as an easily frustrated lecturer, a straight man to the humorous antics of another Muppet, or a news reporter interviewing storybook characters for Sesame Street News. He most often interacted with Grover and, to a slightly lesser extent, Cookie Monster. The various songs he sang on Sesame Street tended to be meaningful in nature, most memorably his song "Bein' Green".
Following the death of Jim Henson, Kermit was used less frequently on Sesame Street, but still made new appearances until 2001. Unlike the rest of the show's Muppets, he was not created for the exclusive use of Sesame Workshop, and has rarely been a part of the show's merchandise. All Muppet characters originally belonged to the Jim Henson Company, but when the opportunity came for Sesame Workshop to buy its characters for $180 million, Kermit was not included in the deal.
The character now belongs to The Muppets Studio (owned and controlled by the Walt Disney Company). Sesame Workshop does have permission to use old sketches featuring Kermit, but such sketches are rarely used in new episodes. Kermit made his first new appearance since 2001 in the show's fortieth season premiere on November 10, 2009.

'They remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation'
:'D !
speaking as a maximally leftist bisexual, if i wrote a story / show / whatever and some group pressured me to make a character decision to further their political agenda, i would tell them to go fuck themselves. children's show or not. fuck the people behind this petition.
"they're just puppets, they have no sexual orientation" is exactly the right answer to reply with. "but miss piggy--" no no no, they are fictional. they don't have sexual orientations, nor birthdays, nor great grandmothers, unless this gets written into the story. they do not exist.
i am all for depicting gay relationships in kids shows, and doing other things in fiction / entertainment media expressly for political / ethical purposes. however, i would absolutely never write in a character trait because some asshole sent me an unsolicited petition demanding it. that is outrageous. my response wouldn't be "they're just puppets," it would be "go fuck yourself."
