If gays really wanted acceptance they would lobby against such displays.

Gay Pride events are more about people knowing that nothing is wrong with them and going somewhere they feel safe, accepted and can be themselves. Sure Pride Parades are obnoxious but for one day/weekend out of every year people let loose and have fun in public, without fear of persecution.

They can their celebrations and all but this one is in protest of Gay Pride. Even though the idea is dumb and useless.

Don't get me wrong. I probably shouldn't have used Lifestyle because it implies choice. My point is Homophobes are gonna hate gays no matter what. The damage comes to those people that are either indifferent or choose not to really think about it yet feel antagonize by it being thrown in their face.

It's fucking stupid to take pride (or shame) in something you didn't choose/accomplish yourself. Orientation/ethnicity/nationality/left-handedness/etc... equally pathetic to be proud of.

I think it goes both ways. I think, much like the "It gets better" campaign, it's important for people that are thinking they're alone, freaks, etc. to be exposed to the reality that they're not alone, to know there are other people going through the same struggles, and to know that it's ok to be what you are.

On the other hand, unfortunately, much of the "Gay Pride" events are a lot more about shoving it in other people's faces than the important message they could/should be about.
