Late night driviing and red lights / stop signs

And lights are there to control traffic. If there is no traffic...

And assumption is the mother of all fuck ups. I've lost track at how many cars were totaled outside my old house cause they would zip through the stop sign late at night not realizing how much of a curve there was 200' past the stop sign. As other people already stated, if saving 30 seconds is that fucking important to you, leave 30 seconds sooner then. I don't know how many times i've had to fix a computer in the autopsy room for the county coroner's office and they are dissecting some dumb shit who wanted to reach his destination 2 minutes faster. My favorite probably being the motorcyclist splitting lanes in rush hour traffic, clipped a delivery truck, hit another car, and the end result was his head (he had a full helmet on fyi) was 90% removed from his torso, and his left arm was hanging by a thread. And the bike was a good 100' down the highway from where his body wound up at. It just isn't worth it.

I'm surprised nobody's brought up pedestrians(or I missed it) yet. It is sometimes impossible to see someone walking without reflective clothes(lol) on at night. If someone sees you slow down to a stop sign/red light and they start walking and lose attention of your car.. and you gun it because "nobody's around" the both of you are in for it. A few weeks ago I remember coming home and almost hitting some fat black lady waiting for a bus(don't think they go out that late, so idk wtf she was doing) in the shoulder - but she was practically on the white line and she was on a turn in the road, so I didn't see her gigantic mass until she was right next to my car. People fuck turns up all the time and drive into the shoulder by accident without even knowing it.. she could have been hit <_<

All of which involved running right through a light/stop sign. Anyone who doesn't want to wait for a light, and isn't completely retarded still treats it like a stop sign, instead of just driving through at 70 mph.

I made a comment in a thread once that I wish there was some kind of liability law over pedestrians who text.

I was in a parking lot trying to find a space so I could go to the bank to make a deposit (a bank I used to work at mind you). I had to stop fast when this woman jotted out right in front of my car. She hadn't noticed me 'cause she was walking while texting and hadn't even looked to see if there were cars coming. She didn't even look up when I slammed on the breaks. She was going into the bank as well. When I went in I saw she was a new employee there. I was talking to my friend Monica (a teller) and told her what happened and that she should let the woman know. Monica rolled her eyes and said the woman had already been in two accidents because of doing just that, and that she probably still won't learn.

fucking stupid. Even if it would be considered the drivers fault under the law, that doesn't lessen the pain if you get your leg completely squished or some shit.

I think they are meant for pedestrians not cars, the few streets I recall seeing those signs were downtown.Alot of pedestrians in downtown so are cars, and it's like ppl get their brain freezed with all the stores around that they crosses streets whenever xD.

After living in NoVa for almost 5 years now and seeing the utmost retarded drivers I have ever seen on the face of the planet...I concur that not stopping at stop signs and red lights cause you want to save time is made entirely of Epic Fail. I HATE drivers around here! Their heads are so far up their asses its not even funny...from texting, to SUV/mercedes/bmw/lexus rich fucks who think they should not be troubled by your presence on the road, to immigrants who have NO FUCKING IDEA how to drive literally and somehow passed their license exam, to just plain assholes who want to "get there faster." To those of you that drive like this I give you the biggest one finger salute ever and hope that a tree finds its way into your path while you drive alone at night...so you dont end up killing another innocent person on the road!

The amount of sheer stupidity... My last job (just quit, going back to school) had me running all over the state of Texas and other states and people like the ones justifying being a shitty driver in this thread piss me off. I drove roughly 30k+ miles this summer alone in trucks that were well over 12,000 lbs. Grill guard, 4 door, flat bed Chevy Silverados. These things do NOT stop on a dime and there's no telling how many times I had near misses from people running signs and being general idiots on the highway. My favorite was when we were driving to Odessa on I-20 with me following two oil rigs and an anchor truck with my lights flashing. The fastest these things get is 45 mph. Anyways, I'm always checking my rear view mirror to make sure people see us and are moving over. Well I didn't see anything for a good two miles so I went back to driving along and look up at my rear view again in about a minute or two and all I see is the front end of black Tahoe engulfing my mirror so I slam the accelerating and hit the shoulder. Well the woman went into the middle median (grass median of about 30 feet and two lanes on either side) came back on, went in front of the first oil rig on two wheels, caught again, went across the median into oncoming traffic just barely missing two 18-wheelers because they moved over, and finally coming back into the median and stalling out. We stopped for her and come to find out, she had set her cruise at 80 and decided to text. Thirty year old woman with a one year old in a car seat in the back. Out of all the things you would think that would make you be more responsible on the road, a baby is something that comes to mind. But not this woman, gotta have my text. If anyone has ever driven on I-20 they know it's a very long and flat road, there's seriously not a stop for over 500 miles. I have a lot of other stories like this unfortunately... Also, to conserve gas, VERY slowly accelerate and coast as much as you can before having to stop.

You guys should see the Spanish drivers. Not sure if it's all of them or just the ones down south but they're goddamn terrible at driving.

Indicators don't seem to exist for them, if they're behind you they're tailgating right up your arse, if they're in-front they're 15kph under the limit, they can't use the clutch so if you catch one on a hill you need to give them about 2 car-lengths of leeway for when they invariably roll backwards.
They don't even register pedestrian crossings, they ignore right of way, they pull illegal turns and U-Turns anywhere they can manage, they can't use a roundabout to save their lives, Stop Signs and Give-Ways don't exist...

I've never seen drivers worse than these guys, they're a hazard to absolutely everything. Can't count the times I've nearly T-Boned one of these shits on an intersection/roundabout because they ignore right of way, how many pedestrians I've almost seen hit because they never stop at crossings (especially outside busy schools), or the chaos they cause when they're lost up a hill.
Then there's the parking in the middle of the road and pretending they're invisible because they pop the hazard lights on...

I actually caught one once half-way up a hill who decided he didn't really want to go up, so he made an illegal U-Turn on a pedestrian crossing when the lights were red and tried to ride the crossing to the section of road he wanted to drive on.

A friend of mine is a cop and had to attend an accident where a Spanish driver got railed by a Lorry on an intersection where the Lorry had right of way. The Spanish driver's exact words to my friend was "why should I stop?". And later the guys insurance company made the same argument to try and avoid paying out.


In retrospect: why did I learn to drive? Between other motorists, shits on their mopeds, cyclists, and pedestrians driving is a bloody nightmare.

So after serving my rage temp ban, I havent exactly made that video I was going to, but I found another prime example of a light I'll constantly rip though that has absolutely no business being an active light at 2am.

Infront of Concordia campus. I get why the light is there during the day, no question. But this light isnt synced to anything around it, nor are the other two ends pressure plated, and I'll often catch the green from the south, just to run into this minute long red light. What the city SHOULD do is make the east/west lights (university/field ends) flashing red as a stop sign, and just shut off the lights going N/S. Unless of course theres students in school or doing sporting practice at 2am (all the lights in the school and the field are off, so unlikely).


And I also believe that the roads may be different in other cities, might be more compressed or whatever. I remember when I went to NY, the roads were entirely different, as well as a testimonial from a previous poster saying that driving in Toronto was much different. And....driving downtown is just dumb, because people will cross the streets whenever they damn well please.

another one, silver car would represent me, attempting to turn left. Theres a strip mall parking lot to my left, I can see EVERYTHING that needs to be seen on that end. To my right is a big front yard where I can once again see down the street to my hearts content. No cars are going to ninja out of the bushes and T-bone me as much as you guys would love to hear that, not to mention this is a rather heavy residential area without much night time activity.

I would stop just because I'm not a risk-taker :S I also wouldn't wanna get into the habit of blowing through lights. All it takes is a stressful/tiring day to mess with your attention to detail and then you're explaining how you didn't see that person/car/whatever to a cop.
