I felt like some straight people weren't getting the implicit point the gays were making. Pride parade isn't about appealing to the sensibilities of straight people, it's not a public relations campaign. It's about lgtb people just having fun. It's the gay mardi gras. I would prefer that there were two separate parades, one political, the other just for fun, but i'm not in charge.

The argument i felt was being made by some straights was: homophobia is over.

Which, incidentally, seems to be the theme agaisnt stuff like affirmative action or feminism. Arguing about fairness & equality for all, as if such a thing existed for everyone in fact. To argue that if gays have a special day, then so should straights because of fairness is to pretend both stand on equal footing. Like homeless people receiving free food & a rich guy showing up yelling that he should get free food too because only that would be fair.

Coincidentally, gay pride started after police raided a gay bar in NY, and parade was a defiant show that they wouldn't be intimidated anymore. Taking that into consideration, the current incarnation of gay pride parades seem pretty consistent with that feeling of defiance.
