some of you just don't get it, the store is PAYING you in many of these cases to take away entire loads of shit. over 100 night time advil gets shoved into a cart and they credit you a few cents per. why wouldn't you stock up on that shit? and that's part of their plan anyway they use that credit to then apply to stuff that they aren't getting for free (but still a tiny fraction of what most items actually cost) which is how they are getting most of these massive deals.

I very rarely use coupons, but that's mostly because I go grocery shopping at a store that doesn't offer them. They just have low prices and their store-brand products are actually pretty decent. I know Ksandra said she spends $50+ for 2 people per week....for $50 I can buy enough to last 2-3 weeks depending.

Part of it I think is that my bf and I have pretty regular meals we usually use and I try to find cheap meals/recipes. Also bulk stores like Cosco's/BJ's I'll get things like paper towels/toilet paper - anything that doesn't go bad and know we'll eventually use and save some money that way.

I certainly wouldn't have the time to do couponing like that (though I keep an eye out for sales) and no matter what the price, if I won't use it, I just won't buy it.

I thought most coupons didn't work with other sales or coupons @.@

Again, I saw one with something like 100 tubes of toothpaste... Or enough cake mix to make their 3 kids cakes for 18 years. They never have shit that's actually healthy for you on sale either. It's always crappy products. There's a reason MOST of these people are so fat. All the sale stuff is just plain bad for you.

I disagree, my store has sales on healthy stuff all the time. you are semi correct though. They are fat because in general healthy food is more expensive than bad for you food. That doesn't mean the healthy food is never on sale though. For example, I get things like apple juice n' shit all the time on sale and it's way cheaper than soda. Just people want the soda so they wait for the soda to go on sale, not the juice.

People are fat because they like fatty food. P. simple.

Point. But I for one wish stuff in the produce section would go on sale from being "holy fuck expensive" to "Damn.."

I don't disagree with that. I do think it's a problem in general that fatty foods are more appealing not just because of taste but because of the price tag. My only point was that they are on sale a lot just people tend to not think about it.

People are fat because it's easier to eat bad than it is to eat healthy. That isn't to say that it is hard to eat healthy, but when the option is to buy fresh ingredients to make something (which you kind of need to know how to cook, but not really) or a tv dinner, then well...people who don't know better/don't care are going to go to the tv dinner. A lot of people don't want to spend that extra 5-10 minutes it's going to take to make something, but are more than willing to waste that same time on some other medial task (most often it is literally nothing)

I don't disagree with that either. Both are part of it though. There are tons of "heathly" tv dinners, that can be on sale too, but most are going to want to go for the Stouffer's than the Smart Ones because of taste.

Hey - don't put down the ramen noodles! Either made from scratch or just add some extra stuff (I like to put in an egg and some spices) to instant-noodle sort of things and they taste pretty darn good! Not an everyday meal though (hi2usalt).

I actually don't enjoy ramen made from scratch or instant. XD I mean, I'd eat it if I had to, but I'll never buy it out of want.

The coupons on 4chan are better. Free PS3s all around. I can't believe how sneaky some of those coupons are in the self-checkout isle. As long as each coupon is under $5.00 (I think?) it doesn't even require a manager's authorization.

Even the "healthy" ones are overflowing with sodium...

My roommate rips off our local grocery store all the time in the self-checkout. Mostly doing organic stuff as non-organic, but also with whatever fruits/veggies are on sale (like 2 kinds of peaches). He got 3 pounds of shiitake (9.99 a pound) for the price of the cheapest mushroom (like 3.49 a pound). I really don't know how they are making money with self-checkout

I've probably used like $3k worth of those fake-ass coupons on beer at Walmart; everyone working there hates their life and doesn't give a fuck.

I know a few people that do this and buy the 300 cans of dog food, 1000 boxes of ramen, 100 bottles of shampoo, etc. only to turn around and resell it via yard sales and make a killing.

Well, as other people have said, these shows are kinda unrealistic...They take the most extreme cases because they're the most interesting. However, it's possible to save a good deal of money using coupons even with very little work. For instance, this is the budget spreadsheet I kept for my shopping at RiteAid when I first started using coupons:

(UPR=+UP rewards, the "$X off your next purchase" store coupons for RiteAid that print on your receipt; SCR=single check rebates, where you submit your receipts online at riteaid.com and at the end of the month they send you a check [I also included in this column manufacturer rebates, i.e. rebates I had to mail in to a specific company)

So in the ~4 months this snapshot covers, I got $417.68 worth of stuff (this is the pre-tax value) for $73.28 (post-tax cost) out of pocket. However, in that time I got over $123.83 back in rebates, so my net cost was -$55.55...That is, I got paid $55.55 to buy all this stuff. Very little of it is perishable as it's mostly stuff like toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrushes, OTC medications, deodorant, body wash, shampoo, razors, laundry detergent, etc. Do I use it all? Nah. I keep what I need and give the rest to my coworkers because working for $8/hour sucks.

I don't go to any extreme measures to do this. I have a subscription to the LA Times and will sometimes print coupons online, which amounts to costs of about $5/month. I spend maybe 30 minutes a week total working out my shopping trips. Plus, I have fun doing it...It's like a game to see how much stuff I can get for nearly free :D

I'm just surprised there's no coupon-limit policy, or something regarding negative-purchases, but perhaps I'm just used to getting screwed in this anti-competitive market up here in Canada.
