It's kind of hard/impossible to convince someone of something when they believe they already know everything there is to know about said subject, especially on the internet. If said person was more neutral in their stance, it would be no problem.

Unless it's some Skull and Bones type shit, I find fraternities to be nothing more then the amassing of insecure and/or spoiled rejects of society banding together in a circle jerk to give each other a sense of false superiority and comfort in life.

So, I was curious as to the views of Fraternities and Sororities by the people on BG. I'm in charge of Rush/Recruitment this year, so I'd like to hear some of people experiences as to why they decide to join or not to join. Also, what made you join or decide not to join? Just a survey to improve my chapter/Greek Community.

I'm guessing that was supposed to be an insult. How do you feel that people come across when trying to recruit and get new people to join that's bad? What do they do in particular and exactly?

I already said that if there's no non-greek party scene on campus or you're going hardcore for post-graduation job/business contacts, and you're in a situation where money is no object, i could see the value of a frat.

But now that I've located a hurt spot located on your butt, I'll continually poke it until I'm no longer amused.

Kinda like those bromoerotic hazing rituals y'all do to seal each other into a bro-pact to protect your bros from things like sexual assault allegations and child enticement.

If you want to be convincing anyone it's the people who aren't posting in the thread because their opinions aren't strong enough(case of vocal minority and silent majority, I bet you understand).

True. So for those people interested (and not posting), I encourage you to check them out. I'll even post some websites of a few, not all though since I'd be here all day. A few posters here have stated they were in Fraternities (no sorority women, sadly) ask them for more in-depth positive/negative experiences. Don't take my stubbornness and letting myself getting trolled be an indication of members. That was a mistake allowing myself to do that.

I'm sure if you visit your school's website, I'm sure they have a complete listing of your Greek organizations. If you're not interested in any there, start your own chapter there and make history at your school for the better.

greek life is extremely limited at my university. a girl got raped and killed in a car crash a few years back so they've cracked down on the frats.

I worked at a fraternity for like 2 months and not once did I have any urge to join. They lived up to every stereotype possible and this was a couple of the fraternities that I saw on an almost daily basis.

Yes. Most chapters, that I know of, have openly gay members and everything is fine. I'm the only guy that is gay at my chapter, the rest is entirely and completely straight.
