Thinking about trying this game again, due to sheer boredom. Anyone have a link to a decent starter guide? Or perhaps tips, or anything.

Just linked this to a friend the other day since he had a lot of questions he specifically asked for a guide that would help him transition from D3 so that was the focus of what I was searching for but it touches on the basics well enough regardless that I think it'll still be a good resource.

This is a good one that I used.
And I cannot fucking stop playing this game. I started like two weeks ago with a blind Ranger build; hit LV55 in short order, but shelved it because my passive tree was a mess. Took Paladin to 30 under another guide (Sovryn's Lazy Pally) but thought the gameplay was too slow. Then rolled a Cyclone Marauder and have been fucking loving it. Just hit 68 and am gearing up for the 66 map spam fest. Really want a Belly of the Beast, but cheapest ones up on Poetrade are 3+ EX and I only have 50 Chaos to my name right now.
IGN is CyclonicChaos (Warbands); feel free to toss me a friend request.
Thank you guys. I'll give it a shot!
No BG clan yet?
I'm in if someone makes one, don't really know many people who play this game so I'm often solo.
Jesus Christ the passive skilltree is overwhelming. Fuck.
For your first character, don't worry about the passive tree too much. Just get whatever you think will be helpful at the time, and see how it goes. Once you hit a wall, either by getting crushed by everything or not being able to do damage, you will have a better idea of which passives you want to plan on for future characters. Then you can learn more niche uses for some of the keystone passives as you get more experience.
I started playing again. Never got past 50 because my friends always quit in the 30s out of boredom. Giving SRS Witch a run for now on Warbands. Currently 41. New abilities make this much better but leveling as this build is slow. At least I'm tanky as hell. Account name is IronChefs if anyone wants to play with a shit ton of zombies on the screen.
I didn't have much time this week, so I just got back to the LA Scion today. Switched out Frenzy for Puncture Trap for single target at the start of cruel. Holy shit, this is so broken. I don't think I'm supposed to be one-shotting warbands mobs with just Puncture/Trap/PPAD/Point Blank. Still 9 levels shy of being able to use Chin Sol, too.
82 Cyclone Marauder
79 Reave Ranger
Reave Ranger is my main right now; really loving it. I just bought my first "big ticket" item (Lightning Coil) to help offset the damage from Abyssus. The game is certainly a grind and a half, but the sense of reward is so great too; buying that Lightning Coil with the 5.5 EX I had scraped together from random sales, sac fragment farming, and just map grinding over 2 weeks was awesome. To put it in another context, I was almost as excited buying the LC as I was when I bought my first Hauby in XI back in like 2007.
And once you get the base game down, you can progress pretty quickly. I think I got my Reave Ranger to A4 Merc in like two weekend days.
Yeah, I did a lazy pally to 68, then a dual totem to low 80s. Got some mid roll facebreakers to dorp so I decided to level up an duelist using those. Ice Crash dps was insane while leveling up. I really just need to 6L a body to start taking off more. Have a Daresso for the duelist and an Infernal Mantle for the Totem witch. I think getting a 6L to finally happen will be one of those hype moments.
I've had tabula rosa drop, yay easy leveling, and Bringer of rain to drop. Apparently infernal mantle is worth some? I vaald a few extra stuff for the lulz. Got increased radius on a meginords, that's kinda neato I guess. I also got lvl10 vuln on hit on facebreakers. 642% FBs..... sad![]()
I bricked my Tabula last night with a Vaal orbDidn't need it and Vaal-ing shit is addictive. I got +5% AOE radius on a Meginord's Girdle and it sold in like 10 minutes for 20C.
I've been getting nothing for drops this league, and I didn't want to invest more into my LA Scion, so I dumped her around 70. Pushed my flame totem dude into the 80s, then started the standard Cyclone Mara that everyone is doing, and it's so fucking easy to keep a melee alive this patch. It's a nice change of pace.
Damage is so high this patch. I started as a crit tornado shot ranger got her to 90. Buffed with 6 frenzy charges and 3 power her gmp'd ts tooltip is at 39k. she has ripped through everything I've doneso far. Just wish I could get 80+ maps to drop.
Even my crit reave ranger is pushing 70k dps.
Map drops are awful this patch. The highest drop I've gotten has been 75, and thanks to Flame Totemjust run I can just run whatever bullshit mods for max IIQ. Doesn't matter. Just run that 75, then back to farming 73s with my fingers crossed.
Actually, maybe this falls in line with my rare and unique drops too. This patch is making up for that time I chanced a Shavs during Beyond.
I've been trying this game out, I have a level 41 character... But I'm having a lot of the same gripes I had with Diablo 3 when it first came out... that being, I'm not getting anything good to drop.
I haven't laid eyes on a single legendary item, and like, 99% of the gear I come across is throw away, even Yellows... like Throw-Away even though the item I'm using is like 20 levels behind it. Its killing my enthusiasm, I want to enjoy it, but it seems like its going out of my way to make items useless. I've even tried the "Finding a good NQ, Polishing it, and Turning it into a Rare" and that usually leads to trash as well, I think I've gotten a single upgrade from that path and it was only because it was a weapon and the one I had been using was like 13 levels behind. Doesn't help that often times I have to pass on upgrades in armor solely because it would wipe my build due to gem colors.
Halp me dislike this less ._.
No.
The main thing that PoE pushes are races. How far can you push a hardcore character in the given parameters. Races can be as short as a 12 min burst to a 2 hour straight endurance to (iirc) a few days. Learn the mechanics to optimize a variety of builds based on drops then go sanic fast. Occasionally there are team races as well. Races are a mix of luck and skill. It's not for everyone but it's the one thing it has on D3. That said, racing is not my thing.
