Not really Plow. Ebay gets a little bit every time you list something, whether it sells or not. Sometimes you get a promo to relist for free. Even though it's typically only about 2-3 dollars, even if 1000 listings fail a day and don't sell, that's 2-3000 dollars made just from that.

if a million auctions fail a month at an average value of $50, they gain something like 2 million bucks on listing fees

they lose something like 5 million on missed fvf...

Also I don't understand how this is to "offset" overcharging shipping fees when I have select standard shipping on items before and tried to charge 5-6.00 for it and Ebay refuses it saying you can only charge 4.00 for that type of shipping with the kind of item I'm selling seems as if their capping shipping anyway, and if you offer FREE shipping there should be an adjusted FVF for those items since the buyer is not being charged anything additional.

Only ever used EBay twice, and just because the items I wanted were 20 years old.

They are still getting money. Obviously they want the item to sell, but if it doesn't, people will relist, and potentially buy more addons to get it to sell the next time. Hell I think they charged something like .75 just to put up 5 pictures of an iphone I sold. It's strictly a double dip. They charge you to list, then they charge you again if it sells.

This coupled with paypal holding my money for 21 days, or until I get positive feedback is the reason I will never use ebay for physical merchandise ever again. I just sold my last few physical items on there and for now I'm only listing a handful of non-physical items.

I haven't bought or sold off ebay since the summer of 2007, I do all my shopping online pretty much strictly through Amazon or Newegg if possible. And seriously, 99.9% of anything you'll ever buy is available on Amazon... Usually cheaper too.

As a follow up to my previous comment, my last item sold for $355 and Ebay took my money because they buyer wanted a refund due to it being "counterfeit" even though it wasn't. Site has AIDS, stay away like the plague.

For the few of you that sell through Amazon: Do you prefer to ship the items yourselves, or do you opt to have Amazon fulfill your shipments?

If you're selling more than like 5 items...fufillment by amazon all the way, it significantly increases the chance your item will sell because it allows you to offer prime shipping. Assuming you don't already have to pay for storage and thus would be doubling up storage costs by doing so.

Depends on the items too, smaller more valuable items are better values to have them fufill.
