Well, 25-30 miles can still be covered by tons of rain. I'm hearing that's the more 'severe' bit with the Hurricane is the rainfall. Places have gotten 5-8 inches already and it's going to keep going all day.

Gogo inch and a half in 10minutes...then nothing. It's really hit or miss atm here.

Really the only major issue is going to be how long the power is out...

My fire chief was talking to a JCPNL power guy yesterday and the dude straight out said "If the power goes out, expect it to be out for at least 48-72hours". Basically they aren't going out in the shit, especially on buckets, and they will whine and complain for fire/workers to move a tree before they can touch the power while the fire/workers wont touch the tree till the power is off.

The biggest problem is that the storm is going to sit on top of us for 12ish hours. Even if it downgrades more, and the winds are only 50mph sustained, 12hours of that is hell. Not to mention the 10 extra inches of rain the ground already can't handle.

I really wish people would listen to the STATE OF EMERGENCY and get off the fucking roads. How fucking stupid can you be. I'm not putting my life at risk to come out and save you dirtbags that are too stuck up or stupid to get inside/out/off the road like you were told.

I'm north of Baltimore, so most of the fear here is power outages, downed trees, maybe some flooding for certain areas ... so keeping that in mind I just realized people are more stupid than I gave them credit for.

So I just got back from the grocery store to grab a couple small items just in case I can't do my usual Sunday order out of Chinese (in case they close or something) ... so I noticed that some obvious things were literally cleaned out like water, pre-made deli items, other useful things during power/water outage, etc .... and some less than obvious (I didn't expect the Granola bars to be stripped clean, but it makes sense) ... but the thing that literally mind-fucked me, since I decided to buy the OPPOSITE of what you'd buy for a power outage, was milk. I figured I'd grab some Granola cereal and milk since, I dunno, milk is probably the last thing you wanna stock up on if the power fails.

What am I missing here .. are people that stupid? Milk is one of the most perishable things in a grocery store. I dunno, am I being wooshed, or is everyone else?

For nassau, and probably the rest of long island once the winds get above 50mph all emergency help will apparently be terminated. You could be giving CPR and they'd be like nope. I can't remember if the last hurricane was like this, it's been a long time.

I'm personally playing minecraft until the power goes out, and then I'm just gonna eat food and sleep until it's over.

My town is combo paid/volunteer fire town. They have the volunteers on standby at 10 tonight, and called in off duty paid guys to man an extra engine, ambulance, and command vehicle and are going on modified response as well
