Seems to be a Cat2 now.
Seems to be a Cat2 now.
Shit just gonna be rain with a breeze like it is every year in NJ/NY.
It is supposed to gain strength and become a cat3 when it hits the carolinas, coming back down to a cat2 over maryland/del/NJ and slowly losing strength till its cat1 over nj/ny/new england.
It should still be a cat2 when it makes landfall in NJ, making it our first cat2, but it probably won't stay a cat2 for very long after hitting. Still 85+ mph winds with gusts hitting 130 though.
The strength of the storm is the most difficult for them to predict, so I wouldn't put too much stock into that. Hopefully it continues to settle down some.
I've lived through a couple of hurricanes staying at home. There's rarely an evacuation order in Nova Scotia because everyplace is close to the coast. There's no point in having everyone try to drive to New Brunswick, there'd be so many car accidents (and the only way out is through a flood plain). Canadian homes and buildings are built a lot stronger than American ones though, plus with all the drumlins there's not much of a storm surge more than a 100 metres from the shore.
maybe this has been covered but am I the only one who can't get "goodnight Irene" out of my head? not trying to make light of this honestly, but I just can't stop thinking of that song every time I read up on the hurricane.
pretty scary shit. I kinda wish I was there, but I'm a weather/volcano/earthquake junkie. I imagine a sane person would be scared shitless right now, especially on the coast. saw some video of the hurricane in the Bahamas and it was fucking nuts.

I take it I should take my AC out of the window sometime tomorrow...![]()
GDI @ Wagon Wheel. Fuckers.
According to the tracker on weather.com, it dropped to 110mph at 5AM (hence now Cat 2)... then it dropped to 105mph at the 11am update ... and just now on the 2pm update its listed as 100mph ... so its ALMOST down to Cat 1 ... but the eye did swing a tad left of the predicted path, so thats a little less helpful.
This thread did remind me that I need to go to the liquor store at least.
walmart, farm fresh, food lion, harris teeter. all out of water -__-
Well there's plenty of water headed your way as we speak. Got a 5 gallon bucket or two?![]()
Save your water jugs and fill them from your tap before the hurricane hits. It seems silly to buy jugs of water.
And fill up your bathtub the day before and put a bucket beside it so you can refill your toilet if the water truly gets busted.
I heard they were evacuating some zones in NYC.
Watch out for that.
I'm in VA (Beach area) and many areas are being evacuated, especially those at high risk for storm surge and flood damage.
lol at all the commotion, shit like this is always exaggerated around new york and nothing ends up happening.
Katrina victims prolly said the same thang.
