Mandatory Evacuation south of Sunrise Highway from Queens border to Rockville Centre & south of Merrick Road from Oceanside to the Suffolk County line.

I'm not saying this is not being over-hyped, because it totally is. However, a Cat 1 storm can still have sustained winds of 80-90 mph and gusts well into the hundreds. That's nothing to fuck with.

I just got home from food emporium, the canned food and prepared food sections were already ravaged by the time I got there, and I've never seen the place so busy. my apartment is over 40 stories up, I took all the art off the walls and put it in a room protected from the windows, and all the furniture off the terrace. I hope this ends up just being a little rainstorm

Supposed to be evacuations for everything above 25a as well. I can't decide whether I'm just gonna wait it out at home like the past hurricanes or if I should head up to school early so I can make it to classes monday. Stonybrook still has yet to announce if classes are going to be canceled or anything..

Here's a few tips for people who haven't experienced hurricanes.

If you live by the coast, or within 10 miles of it, get the fuck out of there.
If the government issues an evacuation order for your area, get out.
If the police come knocking telling you to evacuate, why aren't you out already, get out.
If you need to leave, do it early (days early). There will be traffic up the ass.
If there are a lot of trees wider than your waist next to your house, sleep in an inner room. Hurricanes don't care what your house is made out of, he/she will throw a tree at it and will destroy your 2nd floor bedroom.
Stock up on food and water, food should be things that are non perishable and ready to eat, you can and will lose your electric over/gas oven. one major gas line broken = your neighborhood without gas.
Buy a generator if you can, if the storm is bad enough it can knock out power for up to 3 weeks if you're unlucky. A/C and a working fridge are priceless and you will be the neighborhoods hero.
It might be tempting to go out and play in the rain if it's not as serious of a hurricane. don't do it. You will not hear that tree falling on top of you when it does.
Last but not least, keep your generators, space heaters, and other carbon monoxide creating machines outside. The US loses about as many people to housefires and monoxide poisonings after disasters than we do during them.

can't agree the fuck enough with this. there's mandatory evac orders for atlantic beach here in NC where this bitch is making landfall and the news is showing stupid fucks still surfing at the beach as of like 3 hrs ago. fucking waves are coming over the high up pier at the beach and i'm just like god let natural selection kill that stupid ass.

I'm bout 20 mins from atlantic beach. been raining pretty steady bout a few hrs already. i went to gamestop earlier for a car charger and some psp games to play and the traffic was backed up around the exit of the town i'm in. had to go into new bern, NC afterward cause my mom wanted to get her car at the shop and it took us a good extra 30 mins to get there. by the time we headed home at 2:30 traffic was far worse in the outbound side of the road. everything closed by 2 around here pretty much so everyone went fuck this and gtfo.

seen people at walmart buying more beer for this shit then water lol. we got a shitload of water and some stuff we can eat non cooked. I got my nice sturdy brick house with my parents and my uncle here and got my bull mastiff who's going nuts atm lol. gonna ride this bitch out. my fiance house.....yeah hate to be her family atm. they got a mobile home bout 15 mins from atlantic beach. shes been calling me tripping out bout the storm. Still say her family is retarded for not evacing considering all my family in her town and anyone else i know there did
